I’ve never had any, but I’ve always heard blizzaks are like gods gift to snow tires. Are Nokians just as good?

I have no experience with either, but I have heard Nokians are even better than Blizzaks.

I think that most people that have had both would say the Nokians are better.

Any downside to studded tires if ran during winter. Pretty sure they are legal in mass

I know guys who use personal vehicles to run parts in NH/ME/VT

They all run those tires from Nov to March. They travel crap highways like over Hogback mtn in VT and i89 in NH. No downsides that I know of. Just more money. But cheaper than paying a deductible for the car or health insurance.

I have a few extra sets of oem wheels for this truck and was toying with the idea of some separate snow tires. I had never driven a car with them until a few years ago in Montana and I was very impressed with them, and there is no salt to melt the snow on the roads there.

Probably a good idea. I'm shooting for a spair set myself this winter. I might stud some general grabbers.

They are from November to April I believe.

I have run snows with and without studs. To me, the extra noise and decreased performance on dry pavement didn't justify the gain in traction on ice. At one time, any good snow tire was studded. Newer studless snows have awesome rubber compounds that make that matter much less. I have seen some tests where high end studless snows actually did a little better than cheaper studded snows on ice.

A Nokians Hakka studded probably does outperform anything, but I would probably take a Blizzak or Nokian studless over a cheaper studded tire not known for its performance.

I need new snows this year. I wore out a set of General ArticMax studded 265’s. They were meh in anything other than plowed roads. I think my cooper STs that we’re studded on my ol’ oil burner (255’s) were better all around.

No, as long as your wheels aren't too wide for them. OD is the same on both (32.1, depending on tread depth) If I remember right a 255 is rated for a 6.5-8.5 inch wheel width. I know that the PVD chromies that were on my truck were 18x7.5's, so I imagine yours are similar.

Good thing to keep in mind, thanks! I'm pretty sure the 18" OEMs I picked up are 7.5 wide, but I'll double check.

Funny, a friend swears by those General Altimax Arctic tires and absolutely hated the Goodyear Ultra Grips he got once when he couldn't get the Generals. I had a set on an old Subaru, but truthfully I think I sold that car before I actually used the tires in the snow. I have a bad habit of buying new tires then trading or selling the vehicle. Someone's got an '18 F-150 with almost brand new Grabber AT2s on it right now as a result.

Mine were similar results with ArticMax's. We went from Nokian to the General's and they only seemed ok.
My experience was much more like @vssman 's friend than yours. The General's were just ok compared to the Nokians.

Someone is getting a new bumper!

Made by Lil B's? Never heard of them but quick search shows it's most likely for a Toyota or Lexus. Te company is out of CO, it's for a customer pickup.
