One thing that @davidstacoma was asking about on another thread was using the big bed cleats. You can use them. I did what @Devious6 did, I put a pair in on each side between the front and middle brackets. I really don't see how you can use them if you don't position them in when you are installing the cover. They fit perfectly under the cover. Between the middle brackets and and of the rail you can put them in and out from the end. I think I might buy a set of four the mini tie down cleats instead of the one large one near the back. I think that might be more useful for me.

The one photo I posted has some brown marks on the cover up near the cab. That's from the packing material and it came off with some waterless carwash spray and a rag, it's nothing.

My 2020 4dr has a plastic bedliner and bed rail caps, what kind of issues am I going to have installing this Lomax trifold?

Mine has to plastic rail caps and all Tacoma's have the composite bed not a bed liner. If you have a 4 door cab and short bed it's the same as mine. It should be no problem. The Lomax cover comes with an instruction booklet specific to the 16+ Tacoma and a general set of instructions. Took me about an hour and simple tools to install it.

The Lomax is compatible with the plastic bed liner!

I noticed that the piece on the top of your truck is part on the metal and part over the rubber strip covering the roof rack slot. Is that piece too wide to fit just on the metal in that section? If so, can it safely be placed inside that raised metal ridge instead of outside of it so that it's fully attached to the metal surface?

You can place it inside the raised corrugation on the roof. The stabilizer bars will have a slight pigeon toe to them i.e. be angled in, but it shouldn't affect anything. Personally I just like this placement and I don't plan on getting a roof rack. I actually considered attaching directly to the black moulding only but wasn't sure how secure that is to the truck.

Considering the black strip on mine likes to come loose near the back occasionally, I would recommend not attaching something load bearing directly to that strip. Between the adhesive and the magnets, where you have it should hold ok. At first glance it just looked like it was hanging there.

I'd almost be tempted to try to spray that piece in Blazing Blue to match my truck before mounting it. That way it would blend in more.

Got my Lomax yesterday and installed. For the price you'd think they would finish the edges in black like the rest of the cover and debur the holes.
I would expect this from the $200 Amazon cheapies. Disapointed at $660, would be pissed had I paid $880 that most places sell it for.

Unfortunately this is true for pretty much any tonneau cover under $1000. Retrax at $1200+ has one of the better finishes on their aluminum and the still have overspray on raw aluminum and burrs on holes.

That's one thing I've noticed in photo's of the lomax covers here, some seem to have splotches and poorly finished edges, while others seem well covered. I"ve got that in my notes as I review tonneau covers to decide which one I want.

I will say the black urethane option has edge coverage. Although there are still light spots where it's thin enough for the aluminum to shine through.

    Hey Mike,
I did some testing to ensure I could install my cleats after I install a cover such as the Lomax that I'm considering getting (or other hard fold with rails). From my testing it's very possible, in fact easy in my opinion.
First loosen the knob CCW as far as you can to allow you to push the knob and extend the screw/lock mechanism as far out as you can:
    IMG_1394 -s.jpg

Then angle the latch in longways into the slot:
    IMG_1395-s.jpg

Then rotate the cleat hook sides horizontally thus rotating the latch in the rail vertically, as you normally would have them, and tighten the knob:
    IMG_1396-s.jpg

Now one thing I don't like about the Lomax is the hard fold cover rails you install appear to be very wide (losing over 2 inches bed width at the rail elevation from what I've read). This leaves in question how much clearance you have with the cleat hook in the vertical orientation in the beginning. But it's still quite doable, worst case you simply take the screw/latch totally out of the knob, install as above, orient the latch vertically, then reinstall the knob mechanism. I did that test as well, all very easy.

I found that you could use the cleat in horizontal orientation one the bed rails are on. There doesn't seem like there's enough room to use them vertical. The rail does make the top of the bed more narrow. I think that is something you might likely see with all the low profile covers. Still it's cool that you experiment with ways to get the cleats in. I didn't do that and frankly didn't think about it. It's my first truck so I'm still figuring out how I'm going to use the bed and secure stuff.

On another front we had a bit of a shower this afternoon and the truck was parked during it. No water in the bed at all for this one. It need tested on a heavier rain yet.

Can someone take a vertical measurement from bottom of the bed to the bottom of the Lomax Tonneau? I’m about to order one from a member, but don’t think there is enough clearance for my big cooler?
    Thanks in advance everyone.
