    Given the location of those threads, I'd just file them off with a flat file and roll with it. They aren't doing anything out on the end past the cotter pin.

    Bingo. Except, I'd just take it to the bench grinder and then buff the burrs with the wire wheel. These guys with a die and thread file are making it way more difficult than it needs to be.

    You can buy a thread file, with a little wd-40 and some patience it works wonders

    I have an old thread file I've had for years. It's four sided and has teeth on each end so it has 8 different thread pitches.
    I don't use it often, but when I do, it saves my bacon! I'd highly suggest one for the toolbox.

    I was thinking the same thing. But could be a good opportunity to practice repairing threads.... if the repair works, great. If it doesn't, file 'em off.
