I did it! I installed faux leather [vinyl] into the interior of my 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport! I hated the interior even before I bought the truck, but thought I would get used to it. I did not! So after a lot of research, and finding out that an old friend of mine actually worked at probably the largest automotive vinyl company in the US, well, I decided to cover the door panels, dash panel and center armrest and console in vinyl. The result is astounding! I documented the whole thing along the way with video as well as pictures that show the before and after. I then combined the pics and video together into one video that I just posted on Youtube. This group has been of great help to me in the past and I have tried to help others too. I thank all of you guys here and I thought I would share this accomplishment with you! Here is a link to the video:

Very impressed that you pulled this off. Is the pleather (Couldn’t resist) glued to the original trim pieces or did they make new trim pieces? One of my pet peeves is the lack of padding under the rubber piece right by the drivers side window. It’s the natural location for me to rest my elbow and going over bumps often jams my funny bone. I stopped by an automotive interior place to see if padding could be added but the person I spoke with said you couldn’t just add padding due to the door panels being vacuum formed. He said it would destroy the door panel to peel that piece back to get more padding in there. Right now I am just using a small piece of peel and stick foam to rest my elbow on. Just wondering how you got it done.

I don't like it, but not my truck. Impressed that you did it though, seems like a lot of very detailed tedious work.

The faux leather [vinyl] is actually heated and molded into place, around curves, corners, etc, and glued with a special glue that pretty much dries instantly. I watched the guy do it briefly, and dang, he sure makes it look easy! I know though, that I could never do it! Anyway, yeah, I hear ya' regarding the extra padding. And it is entirely possible to do so, although the area towards the top of the door where you would rest your elbow, probably couldn't take too much padding because it wouldn't "look right", for one thing, and it might make adhesion a little more difficult too, if it was not tight. What I was amazed at, was how good of a job he did overall, but especially with the center console and center armrest. I had actually wanted a little more padding added to the center armrest, but forgot to mention it. It turned out ok though, so I am very happy with the end result. I get SO MANY inquiries at gas stations, when other Tacoma owners pull up and see my door panels! It is totally cool!

That's ok that you don't like it. Everyone's taste is different as well as the color of the trucks are different. I hated the black EVERYWHERE in the truck when I bought it, and thought I would get used to it, but I never did. I finally couldn't take it anymore, which is when I had this done earlier this year. There are a variety of colors to choose from, and to me, it sure beats that black plastic panel that gets scratched up so easily, which others have complained about. The plastic panels also just look so cheap, especially to be on such an expensive truck. As for the detailed tedious work, it is like a lot of things, in that, if you know how to do it, it looks easy to anyone watching you do it. This guy Jose, who has been in business doing this for 30 years here in town, is basically an artiste in what he does. Most of his work involves actually doing what he did to my truck, but also, he does the dashboards too. Now THAT, is tedious work! He actually takes the windshield glass out, and then of course, everything in the dash has to be disconnected, etc, before he finally is able to remove the dash. I really wanted my dash done too, but I didn't want to do without my truck for the several days he would need to accomplish it. But I saw several vehicles in his shop that he was doing the complete interiors on, and man, it is honestly something totally cool to see!

Thanks, Man. For me, the coolest part is the center console and center armrest. But the entire interior that he did, looks totally as though it came from the factory that way.

For one guys preference, when you can see it’s already peeling up on passenger door grab area. No thanks man, I’ll take it stock as is. Looks great stock. I can say I would not have bought a Tacoma if it looked like that

This comment was somewhat cryptic, as I don't know what or whose comment you are referring to. If you are referring to MY comment where I uploaded a link to a video made of the complete remodel of my interior with faux leather [vinyl], then I truly don't know what you are talking about. Nothing is peeling up at all, I guarantee you that. It is top quality is in perfect condition.

You state in your video that you should send Toyota the link so they can make new Tacoma’s like yours. 00B232E2-2C45-49D1-9507-A52586B7A50D.jpgthat piece looks like crap.

I totally get it and agree! I knew before I bought the truck that I hated the ALL BLACK interior, but I thought I would get used to it. I didn't! I finally couldn't take it anymore, and that was earlier this year, when I made the appointment at the auto upholsterer, to get it done. SO much happier now!
