Tacoma Lift FAQ/Guide - READ THIS

Maybe someone can validate my thoughts-

bp-51 OLd man emu heavy duty kit with total chaos ucas on 265/75/16 tires. On a 17 sr5 should give me more weight capacity- bit more articulation and a higher up look on the truck.

When lifting a 2019 Off-Road Tacoma, how does this fair with the sensors? Collision and lane departure sensors that is. I seem to think I had read somewhere that I would need to have them recalibrated.

 

I have King 2.5s with resis for front and rear (25001-121/25001-119 non-adjustables) with a Deaver AAL in the rear inbound.

My plan was to set the front at 1.5" to match the 1.5" I will get from the AAL to keep the rake. At 1.5" of lift in front, I believe I don't necessarily need UCAs but if I did decide to go higher, my plan was for a set of SPCs. As for the rake, I don't really care for leveled trucks (just a personal preference). Mainly because they always "appear" to be squatting and I believe (personally) that appearance is significantly increased when the bed has load unless you throw on some seriously heavy duty leafs (aka $$$).

I describe my goals as sort of like an "OEM+" lift without dumping money into stuff that looks cool but I won't get the full use out of. I want more lift and ability to fit a 33" tire (285/70R17). I am looking a better performing suspension for moderate off-roading without killing the daily drivability. I also want to increase the bed weight capability and/or tongue weight for towing to prevent squatting. All of that with respectable durability to keep the scheduled maintenance intervals spread out and any necessary replacement costs low (for instance an SPC joint is easy to maintain/replace than a uniball joint).

Kings are expensive, but I got a smoking deal on them so I figured why not. They have one of the best reputations out there and I doubt I will ever do anything to put a dent in them but if do, rebuilding them is still on the table.

NOTE: I am also a rookie with regards to Taco suspensions and am figuring this out as I go. The above is my plan (so far) and has been constantly changing as I go.

 

Plan is to run 265/75/r16. Would bilstein 6112s up front, 5160s in the back, and an OME medium duty leaf be good for about 2-2.5"? Are there any other parts or considerations to be made? Does a diff drop need to happen, or re-gearing? I drive a lot of miles, so keeping it close to stock specs is important.

 

Sounds good from as much as I have read. Read about the ECGS clam shell bushing replacement for the driver side diff. Lots of people say they get driving vibrations after they lift the truck (any height). Someone will chime in if I wrote that wrong. Not sure about diff drop. My truck has plenty of give with 265s on stock gears.

 

Questions guys and gals, for a RTT. Is a AAL enough with standard Bilstien 5100 rear or do I need a full OME lead pack? Also would the standard 5100 accommodate a leaf or do I need to invest into the extended ones? TYIA!

 

Extended is always a better option when lifting. I just put a Headstrong AAL pack on my ’19 with a shell and tools in the bed. I'm an ACLB though, but even with the shell I got 2" of lift right off the bat and am expecting them to settle to 1.5"

My buddy @TailHook runs the Headstrong AAL on his '18 and has a RTT. He just got back from an 8 day excursion around Utah (the hard way) and had no issues.

 

Did both you and your friend keep the Overload leaf in for your AAL? If imagine youd need it for the extra weight of the shell or RTT. How about angle shims? Were any used?

 

So @TailHook got the older design where he technically had the option, but chose not to include it. According to Headstrong, the newer design that I got is not meant to be run with the Overload. He hasn't seen any need to have it in his setup and I am quite satisfied with the job the AAL is doing for me. The bed is much stiffer and doesn't have any of the noticeable sag it did before I put them in.

The only thing is long term. I will see how the pack fares after a year or two.

 

Yeah i have the newer design 3AAL from headstrong and my truck sits conpletely level with my eibach lift setup. Im about to run a RTT and rack(150lbs aprox)in the back so i figured that would create a little rear sag. Figured putting the overload back in could help and accomadate for the extra weight.

Your thoughts?

 

I'm not really sure. I know that the new @HeadStrong Off-Road pack looks like it *could* fit the AAL along with the Overload, but they specifically say it isn't meant to be run with the Overload. My bed was lifted 2" initially, but only sits an inch higher with all of my tools loaded under the shell. It's hard to say how much your bed will drop as I believe your kit is lighter than mine. I am Access Cab so that might affect it as well. I'm still happy and the truck sits a lot better than it did with the stock suspension all around.

 

Correct. I know they made it to run it without, for the smoother ride and the progressive feel. But i know that it can be run with the overload

 

I just spent 8 days in the backcountry of southern UT. Full expedition load out (including RTT) was ~400#, which varied based on how much water was onboard.

I left the overload out of my 3AAL setup (although my variant can run with it), which is coupled with Fox 2.5 coilovers up front and 2.0 resis out back...rear sag was maybe .5", and never hit the bumps in ~700 offroad miles. Super happy with my setup...does exactly what I want it to do, and with stock-ish ride height.

 

Thanks buddy, ill have similiar weight in the back of mine. How much of a lift do you have in the front? Mine is 2.5inch with eibach suspension.

 

~0.5" over stock...the OR and Pro are 1" higher than the other trims by default, as you may know...rear netted ~1.5". I wasn't interested in a lift, just better performance offroad (night and day)...mostly level when loaded and no bump contact, so worked out perfect for me.

 

Aight, I have some questions and they are probably stupid ones but here it goes. I have a 2013 base model 2wd 5 lug. Has air shocks in the back already. Apparently whoever put the spacers in the front put the wrong ones and we’re drunk and high and blind. Got them out and now a grand worth of new rubber is rubbing. I hAve been told they Make spacers for the bottom of the shocks but I can’t find them. Can anybody tell me what I need dummy style. Just looking for 3 or 4 inches with of lift and doing it in the safest way because my 16 year old daughter is behind the wheel

 

I have a 2020 Offroad. Looking for a better possibly softer suspension with no more than 2" of lift. Ideally only looking for 1 or 1.5" Any recommendations?

 

I have a question that I know has a ton of variables but I need to make a new coil spring rate choice:

Let’s assume tube bumper and sliders, skid plates and about 400# of gear in the bed. (Vehicle is a Chevy Colorado but equivelant in weight and m/r to a mid travel Tacoma)

I have a 16 inch 650# spring on my Kings and 1 thread showing on the passenger side and about 4 threads showing on the drivers side and the truck sits about level left to right. But it’s about an inch too tall.

I haven’t gotten into spring block heights comparing the 16 inch spring vs the 14 inch spring and my 5.6 inch travel shock.

if I keep the spring length the same, but drop down to a 600# spring. And everything else stays the same. How much do you think it will drop?

I don’t know why I’m trying to stay away from a 14 inch spring. I can’t remember. But I thought maybe it was the block height of the spring but I’m juggling all the details from this build. The long travel build for later this year and my friends truck who is trying to maximize a Baja kits prerunner kit.
