I admit, I looked it up cause it didn’t look right when I read it the first time.

but I’m originally from Georgia, so I’m definitely a southern dumbass.

 

The 17mm. The box end stripped out backing up my air ratchet. Fortunately I had a craftsman and instead of stripping out, the bolt broke.

 

I had coolant system flushed, differential and transmission fluid changed today in hopes that I could pull a trailer without getting hot.
Except for little chunks of metal coming out of the rear dif that Toyota replaced about 50k miles ago, it went well.

 

Coupled with the 59lbs of Haspin Acres mud I washed out of the radiator last night, what I had done today worked.

 

AC and trailer on.

Take it back for replacement. I've beat mine with hammers and used pipes for extensions. I'd say the bolt was seized.

 

the real question though, did you lose that 10mm socket after this picture was taken?

 

Nope! I've been good at keeping track of this one.
Now my smaller older Craftsman set is missing the 3/8 10mm going on 5 years +

 

No chunks or 10mm sockets. Just a few flakes that look like they’re from the ring gear.

 

Ah, not an issue then. I usually just end up with a slurry of metal powder

Well, I finally started replacing the power steering rack... Pretty much everything fought me, except the tie rod ends. Those came out of the steering knuckle without any issue. But that was about the only thing that went right.

At this point I’ve got the old hoses mostly out (decided to cut the high pressure hose into three pieces rather than trying to loosen the seized connection at the rack), the passenger side mounting bolt is out and the driver’s side bolt is loose. I’m going to have to cut some off the bottom of that bolt or try to cut it in half to get it out (totally expected that). But my biggest issue is the steering shaft... I can’t get it to budge. I removed all three bolts, sprayed it with PB Blaster, drove a chisel into the gap and tried just about everything I could to get it to let go. No dice. It’s f*cking stuck.

My next move is to find an air hammer. Can’t think of anything else other than maybe heating it up with a torch. Either way, power steering rack - 1, Nick - 0

 

Geez. I purposefully didn’t drink beer until I finished both front wheel bearings.
Chasing down my weird noises this morning and rf wheel bearing had lost its torque, and two studs holding my spacers were broken and rolling around inside my rim.
