So in my cost basis a "Wash sale adjustment" is normal, right? It's on NRGU, sold at loss and bought lower, I assume (what a trip that was....) (..or higher, I'm not smart). So that's just TD's smartness recognizing it and adjusting my loss/gain for me automagically, right? If so, cool! Is that standard on all trading platforms?

SEE. I mean, careful now. BUT, SEE! From a selfish investing standpoint, YEAH! my gut made sense, but here I am, let's invest in mining! yeee! CSCO I guess, but still. I've made better decisions. Might buy AAPL after the split.

Edit: I do have AAPL exposure via VTI at least in my boring account.

NVDA Sept 4 $510 trailing stop just hit. That was a quick 15% profit.

I haven't seen the "wash sale" terminology show up until statement time. It is associating a value with it?
The only thing I understand a wash sale to do is affect gains and losses for tax purposes. You can't take a loss when a wash sale occurs.

Yes it's showing up with a value, it all checks out and makes sense, was just curious. Positive adjusted gain value, so it's TD recognizing "You dummy....Here's your adjusted gain because you aren't sneaking that past us!" (I mean....probably less aggressive but you get the idea). The "Amount" column or whatever it is, is showing [50] so a "reference" number for the number of shares.

I know if I cross platforms wash sale will be screwy. I'm not super worried right now though, but once I get into self managing everything instead of Betterment doing it, then I'll have to pay attention to that.

Anyone own TAP? They’ve been on a decline for 5 years, but I know they aren’t going anywhere. Looks like they went parabolic in ‘16 and maybe now settling?

Yeah this FAANG boom is awesome for those who were riding that train for sure. My more balanced approach has been slower to come up, but I won't feel the sting as hard when they eventually right-side which I can only imagine that they will. The only question is when (or if) those who are heavily weighted in that space will take profits.

I hold around 25% large cap, personally, but I spread the butter pretty wide myself.

That's why I invest the way I do. Do you sell AAPL at $250? $300? $500? Or wait for $800?! Eventually it will come back, probably to $250-$300 if I had to guess. That would be fair and most actual investors would still be up.

I do a little less dividend investing than you right now, but I no longer take dividend profits directly to my pocket either. I used to use my dividend income as a little encouragement to keep me at it. It loved looking at the income estimator on TD as it would creep up over time.

I'll circle back into that world though. In about 10 years if I had to guess... for now it's all about the build.

Hey going back to wash sale - does anyone have an individual/taxable and a Roth IRA with TD Ameritrade? My curiosity: Does TD handle wash sale between the accounts automagically?

If you sell shares in your taxable account and buy substantially identical shares in your IRA within 30 days, the wash sale rule applies. It also applies if you sell shares in your taxable account and buy within 30 days financial instruments that can convert into the sold shares
https://finance.zacks.com/ira-rules... sell shares in,convert into the sold shares.
