    pellet grills ftw

I bought a cheap pit boss at Lowe’s on a holiday sale last year. Figured I’d try it with a cheap grill and move to a more expensive one if I liked it. Eventually I’ll get a Yoder YS640s.

I love being able to set it and forget it. The smoke flavor isn’t near as good as a traditional smoker but you don’t have to sit and babysit it for hours on end and keep feeding it fuel.

Cheap and versatile. I don’t know how easy they are to control low temps for long cooks though.

I’ve only ever used them to cook steaks and burgers, but I’ve been converted to sous vide or reverse sear for steaks now, depending how much time I’ve got.

I bought a 20lb bag of charcoal pellets, so it’ll be interesting to see how they do compared to the competition blend I use now.

I have the RT-340 and love it. The wifi control with temp alerts is awesome, so I'll set it and go do some chores or whatever and check the app occasionally or wait for the alarms to go off.

Im a huge fan of the Weber charcoal baskets! I use them anytime im "grilling" to get as much concentrated heat as i can. For smoking i use the "menion method". A Weber kettle is the most versatile charcoal grill on the market, combine that with Webers customer service and its a win/win.

What does the coal basket do that dumping charcoal on one side of the grill doesnt?

My weber kettle grill was my parents wedding gift, its over 40years old, sits outside all year un covered, been through soon to be 8 moves, has been through thunderstorms that have ripped 40ft of my fence down, and through a few snow storms that have dropped 1ft+ of snow. All I had to do was weld the legs back on, other than that still kicking ass, going to see how long I can keep it alive!

This is where it lives year round.

That's for sure! I thought someone put a sign in the wrong place when I was looking to replace mine a few years ago. That's when i fired up the welder and started fixing things on it.

minion method burns from the top down, the snake goes around apparently. i always used the minion method in my UDS. I cooked a 14lb butt once for 22hrs and never had to refuel the basket.
