So I'm gonna keep my question as simple as I can. Looking on ovtunes website what all do I need to buy if I wanted to use them? They have a tacoma 3.5l tune pack for $390 and the vforest tuner software plus flash cable for $379. Do I need to buy both of these to tune my taco or just the tacoma tune pack?

Yes. You need the software, cable and tune pack. A windows laptop is required to run the software.

If you want the full stand alone kit, you need both. If you want to barter and trade tunes, then you only need the vF License and Cable.

Barter and trade tunes? Sorry I'm not familiar with any of this so if this sounds stupid its cause I'm not informed on this. Do you mind going further in depth on that

With vF, we are allowed to share the tunes. So, if you find someone with your same ECU ID, you can trade for a tune versus buying the Tune Pack.

    Just an option for you.

So I plan on doing a few mods to my truck (knocking out the back 2 cats and putting on a borla catback) does the tune pack have options for these or would I need to try and find someone to barter with on a tune?

Other folks with the tune have a lot of mods and run fine. But one of the highlights of vF is that you can edit the tunes to adjust for mods. Whether by butt or an actual dyno.

No. Sounds like you need an AV exception most likely.

yeah it seems like thats it tonered. i always forget to turn off the av and its like it deletes the program and gotta install again. its a good thing that i dont have to do all those back and forth emailing ovtune again. all the credential is already there. just weird that the av kills the program and i gotta install again.

When the virus warning pops up, go to the notification and Allow it. That has helped me avoid finding and setting exclusions.

Also, grab TS! With the OVT Tactrix you can use that also. Same a/v dance though. Turn it ALL off before you extract the ZIP file. :D

aka "Butt dyno" as in: Wow, I can really feel the difference, even though there's no actual data to back it up.

Pardon my ignorance, but are there safeties built into the tuning software that will prevent you from changing something that might mess up the truck?

I believe OVT said that there are some built in, but if you really want to force something nutty, it will let you.

Think of it like the old DynoJet piggyback systems where you add a +1 here and a -1 there. Don't go big on changes and things will be fine.

My plan is to follow other folks' examples, esp as I am not a typical tuner. See what others have done (like the AGM mod or linear throttle change), gauge feedback, and decide if I want to give it a go.
