That >8,000 lb. winch is a waste of money.

How about that? A rope with 10K working strength is well over $300! There goes your cost savings!

Edit: and it weighs about 10#/100', so the concept of 5# of gear is out the window.

Yea climbing rope is expensive. I guess if you are going to hang your life from it then it had better be high quality.

Holy crap look at the stretch too!!!! That's rediculous amount of stretch for recovery pulls you'll run out of which before it becomes taught enough to pull you out

I've got some that was sarcasm. It's really old and I couldn't even begin to tell you the specs anymore and should probably be retired.

Who would use climbing rope for recovery of a truck anyways oh wait the dude who'd use an atv winch for the same purpose.

I fully agree! And, I wouldn't trust a cheap rope. I'm just saying that it cost more than half as much as my Warn Evo, which the OP claims is a waste of money.

Hahaha! So this literally keeps you up at night huh OP.

I want to see that shit in action. You’ll be the first to buy a real winch after spending hours just to winch you like 2 yards

It’s crazy how this is considered “static” in climbing and would likely result in an injury if you fall on this. But in vehicle recovery it’s like a rubber band.

Could always buy a Ram PowerWagon I think the winch is standard equipment, or a new Bronco that has to have a winch option, or will at some point.

this trail in the Panamint Valley section of Death Valley called Surprise Canyon is a brutal test on winches . The waterfall section has seven very steep and slippery waterfalls in a 3/4 mile distance

It usually takes a few hours to get maybe ten Jeeps thru this section . The jeep in front of you attaches your free spooled cable to his hitch and brings it to the section of trail you winch from

On the way down the jeep behind you slows your decent with his winch attached to your bumper . I've run this trail twice and have seen many winches catch on fire from overheating

Exactly! I didn't even consider the little stretch in climbing scenario since this thread is about recovery I was just thinking that context. But you're spot on.

Good valid points for sure. Alot of weight savings as well!

But the weight savings vs having an immediately available recovery method is negligible to me. You have to set it up, ensure the snatch blocks are in order and then go. I just pull out my line and I'm good to go!

I did buy a cheaper winch, a zesuper 9500lb for $280 as I don't need much recovery. Most of the time all I need is a strap and a buddy pulls me out.

Spent $600 on the bumper kit, $280 for the winch, I'm $880 out on the cost of the winch and an additional 180lbs. Bumper is 118lbs, winch is 65lbs.

Edit: I lied, the ultrahook and rope guard negate any kind of savings... Lol
