Guys, I have a 2009 Double Cab Off Road TRD 2x4 with a Toytec Ultimate Lift kit with add-a-leaf spring installed to give me a 3" lift back in 2009 or 2010. I also took it in to the dealership for a suspension TSB and they added another leaf if I remember correctly. I don't remember if that was before or after the kit was installed.

Do I need to have the rear leaf safety recall done? If so, will the dealership do it with the lift installed?

Thanks in advance for your time!

Likely before the kit was installed. But they would simply replace your leaf pack with a 3 leaf plus 1 overload. They won’t provide that TSB if you have an aftermarket or modified(such as your AAL) installed.

Count the current number of spring. TSB is 4
    3+1 OL spring.

Or maybe get us a pictures.

As for having it done, Yes.
I’d have it done, to decrease the odds of a spring breaking.

They’d do it even with an AAL?

    I have no idea.
I’d say it is more up to the actual dealership.
Some may do it, some may not.

It will likely be “how much liability” they are willing to accept.
Call and ask, or stop by and ask in person.

You’re right, could depend on the dealership. I’ve read on the forums that some install aftermarket suspension. The one here only installs OEM parts and only if it’s ordered directly from them.

And I wasn’t asking for myself lol, the OP has an AAL and was asking for him.

I had an aal and they did it without any hesitation. I made sure to point it out up front. The dealer gets paid for the warranty work and removing a leaf pack is removing a leaf pack.

Hello all! I had mine done. I requested my old springs back after the recall. That way you can put your AAL on the new springs. They will only replace the springs. They will not put the lift back on for you; you will have to do that yourself. I actually have a set of recall springs sitting around because I install AllPro Expedition Springs on my pickup shortly after they replaced them.

Same deal with my 2010.....dealer replaced springs, but won't install the AAL again, so I just reinstalled the AAL when I got home.

This is the TSB and AAL, correct? If I get the recall done they will replace 3 of the 4 leafs, right?

    Thanks again!

On Wednesday I will take a pic of the newer design springs for you. They are in my garage and I'm not home today. The picture will be the recall replacement springs with no lift. Then we can compare them..

I'm not sure it's worth the hassle to get them changed out. They look like they are in good shape.

For my 2008 Taco Long bed, I got them replaced. At my dealer they wanted me to remove the lift blocks and the front Toytec spacers. Then I took it to them and they replaced the springs. I don’t know why I had to remove the front since it has nothing to do with the rear but the dude said it was policy.

but definitely get it changed. It makes a difference in the ride.

It looks like you have the TSB Springs.
    I see a total of 5 Springs.
Unless your AAL is 2 springs, you have the TSB Springs.
I don’t think they will replace them, unless one is broken, and then it’s a “maybe”.

Thanks! Yeah I had the TSB and the add 1 leaf. So should I just leave them be or go through the hassle of having them changed. It's not something I could do anymore so it would be a nightmare to change and add the leaf back. Would the out 3 back or 4?

    Thanks again!

Why are you wanting new TSB Springs.
Since you already have the TSB Springs now, you wouldn’t gain anything.
I don’t know that Toyota would even replace them, you already have them?
Is there anything wrong with the ones on there now?

    I leave them alone.
If anything, I’d replace the whole leaf pack with a better one and do away with the AAL.
But then I’d only do that if I “needed” to, since you already have the AAL installed.
