"But the post office can't turn a profit." Of course not - it isn't intended to, and it only runs as well as whoever is in charge allows it to.

It may not be intended too, however, there is zero sense in making it MORE difficult to get closer to the bottom line. Fucking governments can't run jack shit....and that is a global statement, not just a US statement.

This is probably the best current info to get a sense of it. Redwoods are resilient.

I guess you would if you grew up there. Derp.

I remember as a kid camping and making forts with friends in the fire-hollowed base of a redwood. The front had a large opening the size of a human den, and at the back of that was a "secret door" of a hole we could crawl out of the other side. I think I was like 6.

Yes. And here is the golden quote:

The clerk added, “it took two months to set up and they were just about to do a test run when the postmaster general ordered us to take it out, now we’re sorting by hand. No wonder they say we’re losing money when they throw out expensive machines like that.”

Fuck, it was awesome. 60 acres up in those redwoods. Talk about a playground. I was born at Dominican in Santa Cruz and spent my whole life in those mountains. No TV, wake up at 5 with grand dad, go feed the chickens, pheasants, ducks, etc. Breakfast and he would go off to work at the hospital (doctor) and we would run around those mountains all day catching snakes, crawdads, forts, etc until dinner. Lunch was plucking apples, carrots, tomatoes, etc from the garden. It was pretty damn cool way to grow up.
