I mean im not sure how recent this all is but I roasted my 8700k playing around a little to hard with voltage and I rma it no problem. Can intel really even tell that you oced your cpu? I doubt it.

 

Not really, no. The issue came up mostly when people send in Prebuilt systems and third parties refuse to work on them under warranty. Their explanation is usually that Intel doesn't support overclocking without the additional warranty and to contact Intel. It's come back up in tech news because now Intel is telling third party builders that they won't warranty CPUs that have XMP enabled.

 

Well then what's the point of intel extreme uti and xmp. which Is literally built in overclocking programs...… From intel..... to auto oc their shit...

Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) is a Windows-based program that Intel promotes as a way to overclock and performance-tune your system.

 

Exactly. That's why the community revolted. I mean major tech youtubers were even blasting away at Intel. It makes no sense.

It wouldn't be a problem except Intel seems to want some companies to enforce these rules where AMD applies them selectively. As in if you send in an AMD chip with burn marks or missing pins they will deny it but just bricked from overclocking is fine. That's how it should be.

 

@Sterdog did you go with the 27 or 32 inch G7? It's finally time to upgrade from my old 1080p 23" and haven't decided between the two sizes

 

I'm assuming there's more cost effective places to buy games than others? Any suggestions on where to hunt? Also, same thing for a copy of Windows? I've heard it varies depending on ethics...

 

32". I'm not sure I'd recommend the 27" with this much curve.

I will say this monitor has some weird hiccups. Make sure to update the firmware when you get it and play with the sleep settings. Also manually download the driver software for the monitor. Sometimes I have to restart the monitor at boot, maybe one in five or six times it'll just stay black. I read into it and it's not the monitor, it's the compression software used to allow for 240hz 1440P and you'd have the same experience with any of the new monitors using VESA loseless compression to get more data out of DP 1.4 .

 

If you have an old copy/key from Windows 7/8, I think you can still upgrade to Windows 10 for free. Other than that, I personally would just get from Microsoft themselves.
As far as games. The Division 2 will be from Ubisoft (or Epic Games )
Just depends on the game/dev and where it's released.

I'm not going to lie I buy Windows keys from Kinguin for most builds to cut costs. You will have to stop your install from connecting to the internet and use the Windows call in activation to get Windows registered. The reason most keys from wholesalers don't "just work" with the automatic activation wizard over the Internet is because they are OEM keys from China. OEM keys aren't compatible with the Internet activation wizard. I have no issue screwing over Chinese bulk system builders and helping out their underpaid workforce lol.

 

Honestly check orgins, steam, uplay, epic, check them ALL because some will have better deals than other, but with uplay you can use your points for an extra discount. I nabbed the crew 2 for 10 bucks cause it was on sale plus I used my points.

 

Also just a comment on something that drives me a bit nuts, no new PC gamer should be buying a system builders copy of Windows 10 PRO. Pro offers absolutely nothing to the average user now. It exists for home users to run VMs and that's about it. Don't waste your money. Home is 100% of what a casual gamer, streamer, or even content creator needs.

 

This. People just assume Pro means its better. Pro means it comes with shit you're probably not going to use and costs more.

 

I thought that I read I need the pro to work with one of the streamer button modules I was supposed to get....

 

I will say this is a super neat little laptop based on some actually useful new innovation with and I wish it came with 16 GB of ram. If it did I would definitely haul it around as a second machine for work.

rbg drives me nuts, my profiles never save and everything always just gets defaulted to rainbow. plus having an asus board, a msi card and trident ram I need like 3 different programs just to control it all
