    Yes
Not sure if you tried ATRAC (MTS & Crawl in 3rd gens iirc), but it could have pulled you right out of there (in reverse) with the front drivers tire having all of that load on it. My second thought would be to run your winch line directly under the truck to a tree directly behind your truck and pull that way. My third thought would be to hook the winch to a tree directly perpendicular to the drivers side of your truck, while turning the steering wheel hard passenger and reversing, or hard drivers going forward depending on exactly how everything was rigged up. Just my initial thoughts for the time being! Glad you were able to get it out without any issues or damage.

Option #2 sounds like the most plausible route due to surrounding vegetation and anchor points. I never thought of running a line in reverse like that. I appreciate the brainstorming thoughts!

If you are savvy enough you can run a winch line and pull yourself backwards

Here are some ideas, which may or may not help your situation. I write these as food for thought.

If you were riding with one or two others, they could have sat on the back left corner of the truck. The additional weight could have been enough for the rear tire to get traction, and lift the right front (slightly) helping it get out of the ditch.

Did you try working the brake pedal to force the loaded tires to get power? Since you didn't mention you had a locker, I assume power was going to the wheels without traction.

    Traction boards may have helped.

Winch to a solid anchor (BIG tree) ahead and to the left. Dig a trench in front of the bumper/LCA, allowing the truck to move easier under winch power,

Use a Hi-Lift as a winch, or Come-A-Long, to winch yourself backwards.

This makes for a good discussion. Perhaps one day, we could all meet out in the woods, and do some practice recoveries. Nothing like actual first hand experience.

This is exactly how I was thinking of doing it however without the front anchoring point available I couldn’t figure out how to get to the rear of the vehicle. 1A08A559-BD5A-438E-89B8-A8518D5D7A43.jpg

Placing weight on the driver’s end of the truck definitely crossed my mind however, we didn’t have anything or anyone other than myself, the driver of the other vehicle and my wife. That’s definitely the area that needed the most traction. Sliding a traction board under the tire to maximize contact and traction is a great idea.

Having a meet up to practice recovery techniques sounds like a good idea. I would definitely be up for that. We have a farm that could even be used to host if we really wanted to capitalize on making it a reality. I knew throwing this on here would help get the wheels turning for creativity.

Yeah thats gonna be a tough one. You don't need an anchor point directly in front. Pretty much any up to 180* should be okay as long as the cable doesn't touch the truck.

That being said if you were really really REALLY in a dangerous spot where you need an anchor up front, when I was climbing often we would use a dead anchor. Dig a hole perpendicular to the front of the vehicle about 2 to 3 ft down if possible, throw down a meaty log, branch, hi lift, shovel axe or whatever you need to brace against the wall toward the truck and bury it (have used a Boulder too). Leaving the cable coming out. You want as low of an angle as possible so it pushes against the ground and not try and pop up and out.

Yeah. It may be soon though. We are looking at rugged pop up campers.

Yep! I saw you! Glad you got out safe.

I thought that was you. The profile of that hard shell RTT on top of the runner is sleek!

Too many to list. I’m lazy
So I finally took a trip to the dealer today about the annoying Entune updates that won’t install in my truck. Lucky me, “they’ve never seen this before”. The shop foreman is going to check for TSB’s and if he doesn’t find anything he’s going to order me a new radio.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
