I didn't mean it was 50/50 they could contract prostate cancer, but 50/50 on responses from vets regarding the removal of the sac.

Gotcha. I thought 50/50 sounded high but I don’t know the actual percentage. Figure our vet knows more than me so I’ll take her word and Snoop will get the snip snip

I've listened to the pros and cons. The pros are that you'll likely have a calmer and less aggressive dog. Can't really argue. Riley is like that. Some of the cons include skin issues as well as joint issues might not have been issues if he'd been left intact. Whether it's waiting longer or not at all, there are proponents of both.

Caution: If you neuter too early then skeletal problems can arise. The bone growth plates may not close properly.

Many Vets are beginning to advocate neutering after the dog is full grown. Depending on the breed this time can range from 1-2+ years.

My mini-schnauzer was neutered at 14 months. He is a small breed that reaches full growth around 1 year. Larger breeds, like Mastiffs, reach full growth around 2 years.

The most prudent course is to talk with your Vet about timing for your dog and life style.

I hear this more now but it has not stopped us from spaying/neutering our dogs at six months old. We have been large breed (Shepherd mix, Shar Pei mix, Rottie's, Corso's) owners for 30+ years and have never had a problem. Agree: "talk with your Vet about timing for your dog and life style".

Maybe I’m old school. Idk. But it used to be a vet knew quite a bit and could guide you. Now, it seems like they still know a fair bit but the “treatment plan” guides them. For those that don’t know, VCA uses tools to produce mounds of paperwork and plans. Vets have less input today and more emphasis on selling. Oh. And you’ll pay veterinarian prices for technician work-meaning you’ll be lucky to see your vet for more than a few minutes
And what ever you’re there for will be done in the back.

Riley is on his last glucose curve. Before they’ll take him, there’s 4 pages of paperwork to fill out. Most of it repetitive. All of it stuff I hope they have on file.

Next, they’ll want you to run through all the pre-flight before bringing him in for whatever.

Bring back the good old days
