I'm almost 100% positive mine does it in 2nd too. It's just not as obvious as it does in first if that makes any sense.
I just found this page https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-manual-trans-characteristics.528380/page-7
It describes exactly what I experience in several posts.

Quoting from another thread here, is there a way to completely disable DFCO or is that a horrible idea?

I can 100% confirm that both the 2.0 DFCO test tunes and 2.0 MT Final have DFCO well below 1k. There are a few ways to observe this other than the butt dyno. The Insta MPG readout will go full red. If you are monitoring PIDs, Open Loop, Closed Loop, and DFCO will be shown. And, if you blip the throttle, you will see it hitch when the injectors come back on. This was how we tried to sort through the 1st gear issue.

I am not sure what post you are referring to in that link.

Last rapid fire post sorry, how does the truck know it's in 1st gear on our 6mt?

And as always thanks for the help!

Yeah. You can't completely disable it or your motor would be konking out all the time. Where it cuts in for 2nd through 6th is about as low as you would want it. We tried a bit lower and it stumbled.

BTW, that OVT post is from a looooong time before it was tested. He learned a ton about the ECU after that. RAM dumps and such.

    You're welcome!

Hahaha! That is a great mystery since all we have are the neutral switch and the two clutch pedal limit switches. I believe (could be wrong) that the ECU compares wheel speed to engine speed and reactively calculates the gear. Similar to the way that aftermarket gear indicators on motorcycles work. Of course between gears, the ECU has to be guessing.

On 2.0, we now only have one throttle map for all gear and neutral. The anti-stall 1st gear issue seems to be triggered by very low speeds. I can hear it firing off when I am moving the Taco around in my garage and the RPMs dip when off the throttle. @OVTune 's guess was that if he could find the anti-stall feature, he might be able to fix 1st gear.

I have not seen anything jumping out at me in vF that would allow us to do anything here at this point.

So you're loving that big ol' torque bump. Driving with only 15% of the pedal is amazing.

So you went back to stock and modified from there vs modding 2.0?

    :rofl::rofl:

It is just all the gears. Resting my foot in 6th is quality.

Amazing what was hiding under there. I can't even begin to imagine why they would do what they did with the stupid Stock tune.

Makes me want to regear my AT slightly just to be in the same groove. Here's to hoping the perf AT final 2.0 is on par as much as possible.

Yes, because 2.0 editable files are not released yet. I expect in time I will take what I have learned modifying the stock tune to goldilocks 2.0.

Yeah, uhhhh, sorry, but . . . . The 3.909 ratio is the other monster mystery. It's like they don't want the AT to see OD? :D

    4.88/5.29 budget is being considered

EDIT: it's because they are gonna slap a hybrid e-assist in there for the low end for the 4th gen

That is a tough budget to swallow. But, I do hear about better MPGs.

Hahahaha! We'll see about that. I'm no fan of pulling around two powertrains. Just gimme full EV when it's time.

Lol. Except the stock tune shifts into OD at about 36mph. They tried to have both worlds.
