I made a round piece of metal from a round piece of metal and couldn’t be more stoked lol.

don’t mind how rough it is lol first time ever using a lathe and still figuring out the speeds.

Tha'ts pretty cool. Can you also turn wood on that lathe? I've always wanted one but just don't have the space in the garage.

Yes, they have wood lathes with specific chisels/tools.

I’m sure you could. Not sure if the tooling is the same for wood vs metal

nah. Wood turning tools are usually hand held against a rest on the lathe, Metal stuff has a tool post of some sort mounted on the compound of the lathe. The chucks are different as well as pointed out earlier.

It looks just like the 5/8 18 unf but reversed. Mine has the cup on the male side. Like some sort of hermaphrodite fitting.

No welding, but thought I’d show the finished product. So many times I forget to update here if anyone is curious. They came out great.

Nice! That’s what Toyota should have done in the first place.

Looking at getting a welder as a newbie. Want MIG, probably going to weld up to 3/8", have 120V currently and can install 240V, looking to spend less than $700.

Potential machines Ive looked into, Miller 140, Lincoln Pro MIG 140, Hobart Handler 140. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Don’t rule out the new line of harbor freight welders, they’ve proven to be decent machines.

I’ve used miller 140’s, Hobart 140 and the Hobart 180(I think that’s their 220v line). They’re all great machines. Personally, I would steer towards the Hobart 180 only because you can weld thicker stuff if you want and you can also use a spool gun if you ever choose to weld aluminum, or use other wire that’s not as strong as the steel wire. As far as I know, you can use a spool gun on the miller machine but miller spool guns are more expensive than Hobart. Hobart machines are also made by miller so there’s a plus.

I’ve personally only used miller machines but based off wanting to weld 3/8 and just a more rounded welder, I’d look into saving and getting a millermatic 211. The auto settings aren’t great but a good starting point and will be able to do anything you want. Look at cyber weld for promos and discounts

The harbor freight options are worth checking out too. The titanium and Vulcan lines not the Chicago electric. They haven't had issues since release and have gotten good reviews.

Only disadvantage is parts/warranty over Hobart/Lincoln/Miller. More so after the warranty is up

For that budget, I would say the titanium 170 from harbor freight. It’s around $550 or so last time I checked. I had the 120v version for awhile and really liked it.

If you want to go a little over budget, the Vulcan migmax 215. That’s what I have and I really like it. It has an auto set feature which saves me a bunch of time.

I agree on the HF welders, it's just that many stores are sold out. My local stores are pretty well picked clean. Check your area before you head out.

Made myself some new hi lift mounts today. My previous ones were a rush job so I wanted to make them right. First one took awhile to get the angles right. I wanted it a certain height off the wheel well and also wanted it to stick out a certain distance from the bedside.

Once I got one down, I put it in the vice. Put the second strip of metal next to it and just matched the bends. I’d cut part way through with a grinder, bend and weld. Second mount took no time at all.
