    OP where did you find an 18"? I've only seen 16" from SPAL.
    Also.. I know removing the clutch fan to free up horsepower is great, but is there any trade off now the alternator has to work harder to run the increased amperage of the fan. Thus negating the power gains?

    there will be more load, but since the fan system is direct wired to the battery and controlled by pulse width modulation the extra drag on the motor under full 100% fan load is around 1hp. and that when the fan is drawing 100%. the the power of this fan i might only ever need 40% command unless under extreme conditions. remember this fan is being sourced from a OEM application and isnt readily available to the aftermarket yet. but is used in cars making 650hp+

    Using Ohms Law: The formula to find power (watts) using Ohms Law is P = I X E or Power = Current X Voltage I = 50 amps (alternator rating) E = 14.9 volts (set voltage of alternator when engine is running) 50 amps X 14.9 volts = 745 watts

    Assuming 1 horsepower is equal to 746 watts, we can calculate lost horsepower as follows: HP=745 watts / 746 watts HP=1.0 (approx.)

    Toyota has a TSB for inadequate airflow at idle and shockingly their fix is an E fan. Another data point to drive those home further (previous was a clutch fan but not locked)... when that fan is fully locked its taking 30+ HP to turn. I'd like 30 extra HP and almost 20 ft pounds and better cooling.

    If you've never watch Engine Masters you should. It's a great show and they're really good at showing what does and doesn't make power. Worth the Motor Trend subscription for that alone.

    IF you are using the OEM gauge to to determine if you are overheating you should know that the gauge sucks. Mine sits dead in the center for everything from 165-210.

    Yeah it’s not Really a gauge, you’re better served thinking of it as an idiot light. Because people are idiots and want to see a happy gauge sit smack in the middle because normal temperature fluctuations with changing operating conditions freak them out. The gauge will only move when you get close to warping the heads.

    How many people here are driving with this engine at high rpm?

    I'm not adding an electric fan. I would be interested in a Koyo all alloy rad if they ever made one and my truck was out of warranty
