A friend of mine is looking at a Tacoma. It is a 2015 and I told him to still double check the frame. He said there is a piece on the frame and grease all over it. He sent me this photo and I really have no idea what it is. Is this some sort of add on to prevent water and rust going down the frame that releases grease? I have never seen anything like this.

Can you take a picture further away? Hard to tell with that close up.

He sent me this earlier in the day and isn't by the truck anymore. Unfortunately it is all I have to go by.

Looks to be part of the latest crc campaign.
Toyota is applying some rust preventative goop in the boxed section of the frames on 2011-2017 I believe.

What? Really? That piece there looks added though. Not just grease thrown in there.

I had an 07 before and now a 2017 so I don't have first hand experience of picture references of how the frame should look. The only thing that looks weird is this part. Almost looks like a parking sensor from that fuzzy angle.

That’s one of the frame plugs that the dealer installs during the latest CRC frame coating campaign.

Neither - its hand powered. Best used after multiple wobble pops and or cold snacks.

Noted. I'll make sure to tell him to ask the dealer if the modulated greasalator is in good working condition. :p

Just spent 10 minutes searching the internet for this and found nothing. Were you joking or is there a different name for this part? Very curious now lol

Toyota added that piece to some third gen frames. It’s just a cover that’s supposed to enclose the boxed section of the frame. It actually helps prevent mud and dirt from getting in there but does nothing for water intrusion. Since the truck looks like it has a new frame they probably added it along with the new frame and coating. Nothing wrong with it, just trim piece.

This, after the dealer treats the frame, they add this to cover end of the frame box.
