That >8,000 lb. winch is a waste of money.

Yeah that would put a drain on the camping budget for sure.

If you knew anything about MA systems, you'd only need 5 cans.

Nope, only about 3 feet. Unless you got that platinum Warn ATV winch that is $1000.

I used to be an autoclub medium duty tow truck driver .Our winch out quotes was free membership winch out up to 20ft of cable pull . Anything past 20ft was a $250 per ft quote

I prefer single line pull cause I don't wanna get my fancy snatch block dirty :)

more importantly, I hope people are reinforcing those little sheet metal tabs their bumpers/winch mounts are bolted to before yanking on it with a 10k lb winch...

LOL. I remember that like it was yesterday. I can’t even begin to imagine how awful that’d have been with an ATV winch.

I'll defend the OP for one recovery only and only one and this is what prompted me to get a winch. @BravesRunner can vouch this was an extremely shit situation. But I was recovered by 2 SxS and 2 of their winches and his 4runner even those winches it was nerve racking if it would work and they had the ability to do the very light duty recovery needed. Just needed some tension and a guide to pull me up some instead of continuing to slide down a hill in the mud. That prompted me to finally get a winch and I would never put that puny of a winch no matter how much mechanical advantage into some serious pulls or any harder recovery. And thats personal experience and actual real world application.

Now that's a winch I'm familiar with. With enough worm gears and pulleys I can pull you out.

There is a reason it's still in production with just a few electrical upgrades over the years but relatively the same since it's introduction. Too bad it isn't compact by any means.

@TomHGZ might want to give this guy a call and explain your recovery ideas or he might be able to teach you a thing or 2. Maybe him having, I think it's 6 now, >8000# winches might say a thing or 2 about recoveries and he's done more than all of us combined in our lifetime in a single year probably.

The new upgraded 8274 also has a 4.5hp electric motor as an upgrade . They also have 10k lb rated 8274 that has a 6.5hp electric motor
