Nothing wrong with my JKU, granted this one is a still new-ish 2017 and only 36,000 miles.
I had a 98' Wrangler and a 2000 Cherokee years ago, no unusual issues with those. Although I did not put more than 250,000 miles on either, they were still running strong when I sold them.

Reliability, while frustrating, inconvenient and sometimes unsafe, is really relative. What one person thinks is reliable might not be to another. I knew a guy with an old Land Rover Defender who rebuilt the steering box almost every year, to him that was just regular maintenance. (I've heard this elsewhere too, it seems to be a common Defender thing apparently).

I like my Jeep, we've taken it across the country twice without discomfort or problems. Again yes, low mileage still.

However I have the benefit of being able to switch back to the Tacoma whenever I want.

Friend had a 2 door 09' Jeep Rubicon. It was decked out nice with large tires, lift, steel bumpers, gears, etc. It could handle everything our island could throw at it and we could turn around in some tight spots. The Jeep had electrical issues however (which prevented some camping trips) and being stranded was a big concern for him. Sold it and picked up a 19' Tacoma.

With my Tacoma I've been able to get everywhere I've needed to and it has a bed. Tacoma's have never let me down.

I had a buddy of mine back in the late 70's that owned a 1976 CJ. I thought it was the scariest vehicle that I had ever ridden in up to that time. It just seemed to wander all over the road at highway speeds. He was seriously injured in that dam thing in a roll over crash. I just googled these older jeeps and this is what I found. Now way in hell would I fork over this kind of money for a "Classic" jeep CJ5.

You don't drive a classic CJ5 for its highway handling.

Looks aside the Ridgeline is a great vehicle and I love their trunk. On the list of vehicles I will never own though...

why not both? The Jeep is my better half’s. I’d walk before giving up my truck for the Jeep. Both are mildly lifted and I’ve taken both on some decent 4 wheeling. The Jeep would give my truck a serious run for its money but there are hundreds of reasons why I prefer my truck.

Because it’s and always has been a Jeep thing.

Heck Jeeps have been beating japanese vehicles since 1942. Yea, after they sucker punched us it took a few months but then it was all over but the glowing for the japs.

He was talking about articulation, which is the ability to keep all 4 wheels on the ground for maximum traction and stability.

Axle articulation is measured in vertical wheel travel.

    For me,

    Because truck.

I suppose one can now claim the Gladiator is a truck but at 4 or 5 times what I paid for mine I'll live with the greater comfort and killer off road ability of my rig.

Think about why there's so many aftermarket parts for jeeps. The reasons are not always what they tell you.

    Devil's advocate

I like the Ridgelines, I would be willing to own one. I like the second generation styling better though. Of course their "AWD" system isn't the most burly thing ever which limits off road-ability, however, seeing that my Tacoma is 2WD, that doesn't really hurt my feelings.
The guy I get firewood from has one, he's stacked close to an entire cord of wood in the bed before and hauled it over. I was impressed with that.

I like having my Wife's Jeep around, especially since it's a 6-speed, but I need a pickup bed in my life.

Remember the last time you were driving your Tacoma and passed a lifted yellow TJ Wrangler filled with college girls and all but the driver flashed you? Ya, me neither.

Love my Tacoma for all the previously listed reasons. But it doesn't make me smile like a kid like my 2004 TJ does driving to work on a cool morning, top down, doors off, some jams playing....

The BEST truck I have ever owned, and still own is my 94 Ford F350 4x4,not even 1 problem in 26 years of driving it,other than regular upkeep .
