It sounds like the sport would be a better fit for you OP.

For most the PRO is mostly for people who don’t want to spend the time or energy upgrading their truck suspension/seats/ all the goodies, they just want something that’s all ready set up.
If you don’t mind spending the money for your own comfort, time and energy then by all means go for it.

If you do want the creature comforts and aesthetics of the pro you can easily add them aftermarket for a lot cheaper it also depends how much time and energy you want to spend into those things if it is that you want to install leather seats, change suspension etc.

I think the sport is great, it drives well on the street and highway.
The pro does ride better than the sport, less body roll on corners, not as harsh when you hit small bumps, really well offroad but you can always run down your sport suspension for a couple thousands miles until you wear it down and choose to upgrade down the line.

I was referring to 2019 & 2020 manual options available in Canada.

I know a guy with white 2019 sport MT. We actually drove each other trucks, he is a member here. Im pretty sure you can still get 2020 DC sport with MT.

The sport suspension is STIFF. That is either a good or bad thing depending on what you like. The handling on the sport is surprisingly great, IMO, because of that stiff suspension. It's not fun going over speed bumps, though. lol

The Pro makes no sense to me, regardless of what you plan to use it for. You spend a ton of money for a truck where its most distinguishing feature is a grille that almost every Tacoma on the road ends up getting anyway. And you can get leather in the regular TRD's now. The Pro seems completely superfluous now.

Also this really depends on what OP wants for options...but as mentioned earlier in the thread. Sr5, sport, and OR in simar configurations are pretty damn close in price, where IMO it wouldn't make a difference. So why not just get the OR?

Yes you are right, my mistake the Canadian website lists a manual for the 2019 and 2020 sport.
Looks like only the "Pro" options are available but the frame is a "Sport" selection without pro option selected.

Maybe someone already said it, but I felt like the TRD Sport felt like I was driving a car that sat higher. For some reason the OR seemed to feel more rugged and truck like. The TRD Pro seemed to drive exactly the same as the OR.

I wanted the TRD sport for the hood scoop, but felt like I got more for my money getting the OR with CC and the locker. Granted I have yet to use either of these functions and fit the stigma of that dumb guy who buys way too much truck for his intended uses.

But my OR has a skewp now and looks pretty I think

You are exactly correct about the Sport. It is the thick sway bar combined with the other bits. Deleting the SB made me and my wife happy. I used to get nasty looks going over our driveway curb and any other uneven bump. Now, life is good.

The pro is nice but definitely overkill for the 7g more it would of cost over the sport.
Does anyone have any thoughts or experience on swapping the sport suspension which is undeniably "Stiff" simply to other shocks without all the fancy lifts and aal?? The sport stock cannot take bad city streets/bumps at all, but does roll well on the highway.

On an AT the OR rear end is larger and the OR comes with an electronic brake booster.

The Sport is an appearance package, the Off Road is a performance package.

The sport serves as my tow pig. Its damn comfortable when it's hauling a 3000 pound trailer cross-country. And honestly I used to be very happy with the suspension until I got on here. Reading thousands upon thousands of echoes about how "sport suspension sucks" makes me question my life choices. Maybe one of these days you guys might finally peer pressure me past my breaking point and I'll finally throw some money towards a less nerdy setup.

I will say, its amazing what trails this truck can scrabble up without complaint in just 2WD and "eLSD". It goes much further than the average owner would think.

I would just get the off road, add Katzkin leather seats and buy the hood with the scoop for a total of 2k in upgrades.

You should still come out ahead about $5k+ this way?

There's alot of OR owners on here posting misinformation and misleading statements instead of facts. One reason I rarely post, it's a waste of my time.

The Sport is very off road capable as stock. Or swap out the suspension and tires as I did.
    20191116_111459.jpg
My only gripe is the Sport fuel tank does not come with a skid plate. But that's easily added on.

The rear differential on the Sport AC MT is the large version without the locker. The LS option works well. In some situations better since it engages only when one wheel starts to slip. (I can hear the peeps already saying BS!) In real slick situations on a side hill or when straddling thru muddy 2 tracks it helps if one wheel up front and the rear does not have power, instead the those wheels act to keep the truck on course and out of the deep muddy ruts or sliding sideways on a side hill.

I learned this long ago in jeeps and my first Toyota 4x4, an 85. It had neither LS, lockers or posi Trac, remember that you peeps! Despite this fact I could 4 wheel anywhere the big boys went in my 85 and could climb anywhere the posi trac peeps went. Even in stock form, the Toyotas back then were true battle proven ready trucks.

very true. many OR owners here will have ppl believe the Sport should never go off pavement, it's ridiculous. A good set of tires and knowing how to drive go a long way.

Paragraph 1...state that the Pro is overkill...
Paragraph 2...inquire how to fix the crappy sport suspension

A Tacoma is NO different than any other car or truck. It is sold in multiple trim levels to suit needs, wants, and budgets. There is nothing "overkill" about a Pro, and the options are damn nice to have if a buyer is willing to pay for them.:thumbsup:

TBN you are correct and there's alot of missing context from my statement. For instance I previously had a 16 trdor and an trdor was my original target to buy when I got the 20 sport. I did test drive the pro and considered it, but then decided on the offroad instead cuz the gains wasn't worth the cost imo. Problem was finding one that had the color/options I wanted as most in the region still do not carry the desired option combos hence how I got the sport.
I can admit if they had a mgm pro I prob would of been convinced at that time. But my mind was locked in to silver.
In the end to each there own in how one spends their money, but I for one know I rely on the honest non-sarcastic opinions/experiences of others here and online when making long term decisions. Just was adding mine.

If you want a manual and to put bikes and dive gear under a topper, you will prob end up in an AC sport (like Grossomotto said in 2nd post).
