I just checked the fluid levels for the diffs and MT to wrap up the 30k service. I skipped the T case because I didn't have any fluid to pump in regardless.

It is no real indication of anything, but the fluid that dribbled out of the MT and rear diff when I pulled the fill plug looked absolutely fresh. I was happy to see that after doing the swaps early at 7k.

I will reevaluate things at 60k and may only do the t case then since it has been seeing a lot of action with the 2LM kit.

Has anyone with a pro skid plate changed their front differential fluid without removing the skid plate ? :sawzall:

Yeah I guess you could say I'm being lazy about it.

I don't think that you can? But then, we had a skid with an oil filter access hole in the past. I did one oil change with that skid on and never again. I'm not the neatest guy in the world, but it was a damn mess afterward.

I would like the TRD skid some day and would plan on dropping it for any fluid work under there.

Brilliant! I just did these fluids over the weekend. I don’t have skid plates but I still could have used such a gadget to prevent making a huge effing mess on my garage floor.

A GL5 fluid contains EP (extreme pressure) additives. These additives are corrosive to the soft metals in your tranny. Your tranny life with be reduced with the use of this type of gear oil. A GL3 fluid does not contain these additives...

    thank God they take returns!

Back in the early 2000's my buddy ran 75W90 GL5 gear fluid in his manual trans 1st gen even when I advised him against it. He said, it'll be fine. Well, it wasn't and soon had to have his syncros replaced.

I am curious to see what the situation is on the 3rd Gen T cases over time, esp when folks say that dealer shops are using diff lube in them similar to 2nd Gens. All seems to be quiet so far with some high mile trucks.
