Also, anybody want a Jerry can holder? needs a little DIY on the strap to strap it back across the top of the can.

You'll find that people tend to keep these things close to their chest, but hell's creek (apparently real name "Hell For Certain Creek" lol) is literally right off of part of the DBBB (granted, it's the "hard" section that is not recommended on the map because people rolled their jeeps down a bank and died). GPS will get you here: 37.642710, -83.651033, go down the trail, cross the creek and turn left, then go north until you get to huge flat bottom on the left (which is pinned as 'Leeco ATV Playground' on google maps), that is one end of the trail.

Yep. The 100 jeep clubs on Facebook are always looking for free trails to go shit on. Especially right after it's rained for a week straight so they make sure to do permanent damage to the route. Its quite a conundrum for me, because I like wheeling, but I'm also a conservationist at heart and would love to be able to take my kid to these places too.

What dampens future growth is ripping the everloving shit out of trails and making it impossible for non-purpose built trucks to wheel there. A handful of us in this thread are members of Ohio River Four Wheelers which is a group that was largely responsible for establishing the DBBB and maintaining it. I'm not gonna pretend I had much involvement in those phases, but I have spent plenty of weekends climbing around in thorns on steep banks pulling old tires and bud light cans out of the woods around the trail system. All of us were wheeling these trails before we even know what the DBBB was, so we've got some historical perspective.

To give you an idea of why it chaps my ass that everyone is pounding these routes so much lately, consider the route I just gave you above. Down the hill, cross the creek, hang a left, and go up walker creek. In the probably 4 years we've all been spending time in the area, I've seen that route go from something I myself did in a mostly stock truck, along with plenty of other stock vehicles, to something that almost guarantees some body damage, and has plenty of opportunities to get stuck and potentially roll your truck and be really messed up. The last time we went out there to camp, the fun was rolled back as far as the very first creek crossing. The exit from that creek has gotten so wallowed out from people full sending through the water for the gram that you seriously run the risk of rolling your truck there. Even on 35s it's a chore to get out of and requires solid driver mod. As much as we do and will continue to bust deeds balls, he almost rolled his truck the last time and he knows what he's doing on a trail. There are also a number of places going out the creek where the road is just slipping into the creek and you have about half an inch of space to not roll down a 6 foot bank. Important to have a spotter. This is all before you even get to hell creek, which was something I went down in a stock truck except for 255s the first time I was ever on it with no issues at all, and now has claimed my bedsides and multiple tail lights in our group before you even get in the creek lol.

That doesn't even get into the number of trails that the property owners graciously let us wheel on to get to some astonishing views which have closed because fucking idiots trash their private property for no reason at all.

So it's just a tough situation. Too much of peoples' consumerist attitudes rolling over into the hobby. Nobody wants to respect the land and take care of it, because what do they care? They'll be onto the next outdoors #blessed fad in a year anyway. I genuinely worry that I'll have to build a rock bouncer on 40s to be able to take my kid out to some of these spots when he's old enough to camp. The pace is nuts. 2 years to go from 'stock trucks on 31" ATs can do these trails' to 'I get plenty nervous and break shit on 35 MTs' is a scary trend line.

Also to reiterate all of the above- do NOT try hell creek on your own. You break something and try to walk out, you'll probably come back to everything stolen from your truck by Bubba on his RZR

In all honesty, i blame the ILLEGAL side by sides, 4 wheelers, dirt bikes, and other dipshits ripping the trails and making mud holes worse.
I got the $3k in damage on my door from a hole at stump cave that was not anywhere near as bad last year. The SxS's get back there and spin their shit and make these hold TERRIBLE.
So it's almost like wheeling in trucks and wheeling in SxS etc is an extreme polar opposite. They don't mix well.
And i said Illegal because none of those fuckers are licensed or have their shit registered. It's really frustrating.

I hear you Jibbs - i agree with what you're saying

Much as I like to blame the flat bill Bud Light drinkers, they aren't the only ones. Plenty of assholes in full size vehicles too.
Social media is not helping the way that it potentially could. I constantly see posts in the few FB groups I'm in asking how to get to closed trails, and pics/videos of full sized vehicles wallowing out holes.

There's a time and place for rev limiter, and it's not in every single "rough spot" of a trail. It's up to the responsible folks to stay that way and keep trail systems open.

We had permission a while ago too, but saw how beat up it was and opted to turn around at that fork. 2x groups of sxs went by while we took a trail-side lunch, however both groups were riding at a respectful speed and also turned around rather than go thru the hole.

I was also very surprised there was no signage indicating when you left the public road; I would figure that as step one to reduce traffic on areas that are trying to eliminate public access.

When the private trails around spas creek firmed up their... private-ness, they put up a ton of signs.
Even more extreme, when the overlook went fully private, after they put up signs which unfortunately got ignored, then put up a gate.

I really need to join SFWDA, I'd love to participate in a conservation/cleanup trip that isn't a "benefit ride to spend money at local establishments"

I joined back in April I think, even splurged for the fancy member status. Not gotten my goodies (some cold or some shit holding things up), but I sleep well knowing my money actually matters there.
The overlook got clamped because some jackass shoved the pumpjack off it.

The night i got stuck in stump cave, we had about 20 SxS's waiting for us to winch 3 out of 4 vehicles from that hole. It was 11.30pm and they were PARTYING hard. We got some shit yelled at us on the way out - i don't think they appreciated us in there.

I heard the overlook had someone push off an oil pump? Idk, i never got up there. Fuckers ruin all the fun.

I'd be down to do trail day at some point. I don't care about joining a group, but i want to get out there and fix shit and clean shit up. I'm always taking out bags of garbage with me. Every time we camp, we revitalize the campsites.

Edit: a pumpjack? whatever that is lol.
