    You can use whatever you please, but 85w140 works fine as well. Toyota sells transfer gear oil for $30 per quart. Yes, just over a quart to fill.

    Yep it ain't no quick and dirty process unless you don't care about backlash, gear mesh, or preload then it can be done lickity split just reuse the old stuff (seen that done a few times). I could have done my own but time, place, and warranty kept me from doing so. Plus the yotas would of been a new one for me so I'd have to learn them I have more experience with Dana 30-35 and the Dodge Ram rears as well as 9" and 14 bolt. I haven't done enough to have any kind of speed or proficiency and haven't done one in like 8 yrs. It's not one of those things you want to rush through for sure.

    Well... the wait starts. Nitro 5.29 full kit ordered. Full case of Nitro Gear oil on its way. I reached otu to an REM polishing company who will be taking care of that along with what they call "REM Black" coating.

    The company explained the REM Black coating as:
    "If this thing is going to see some severe duty, we recommend our REM Black coating. This is an oil absorbent coating designed to hold a little lube on the gear teeth when climbing rocks or what have you. REM developed this coating for military humvees. The army wanted to make sure if the vehicle got hit in the axle and the lube drained out, that the guys could still scoot away. Doesn’t interfere with the temperature and friction reduction you are trying to gain with the REM process."
    ...which sounds pretty damn impressive.

    Only downside is 5.29 kits are currently slightly back logged so not sure when I'll get them in. Turnaround time is 3-5 days for polishing from New England Gear Polishing for $300 for the full coating/polishing on bearings and gears.

    I asked about cryo but don't think I'll be going that route unless he recommends it.

    No!!!! I already cussed GM DS front axles when the C-clip would get stuck and you couldn't get them out and had to tear it apart to do so. All to replace the seals with updated ones because they leaked like crazy. That was enough fun for me. I don't want to regear I'll let ECGS do it for me and give me a warranty so I don't have to warranty it myself :rofl:

    Preparing to spool up a 5.29 gear order for my 19' DCSB OR...what is the maintenance cycle for diff oil drain & fills?

    30K?

    Is this a pretty simple driveway chore...or something better left to the pros?

    Also...what is the life span of a set of gears, with weekend warrior 4WD use and DD to the tune of 15K miles a year?

    Thanks in advance.

    Curious if anyone can tell me about top speed being affected by regearing to 5.29?? Is this a thing that happens? Have heard it tops out at about 80 after regear?? Thanks

    :headbang::headbang::headbang:

    The packaging is pretty hilariously bad on these things but they appeared to have made it intact. Plan is to install them next weekend.

    Toyota LF TC oil is like 60-80 bucks for 1 liter. Cheapest I found was 58 locally for 1 liter.

    It's all the additives to protect it while remaining so thin. I think the only concern is aftermarket oils in cold weather engaging into 4H or 4L. I'll use toyota's LF for my TC and I currently have royal purple for my diffs (because it was the only non generic available to me at the time).

    No. The truck doesn’t top out at 80. I can’t tell you the top speed, but I can do 85-90 on 285’s with 5.29s. My speedo is corrected. 90 in a lifted taco with armor and a tent is “uncomfortable” on US interstates.
