People aren't just complaining. They are looking for and sharing solutions. But I guess it's easy to sit back and make smart ass comments about issues you don't understand.

Just add some cushioned seat covers. It helps. Get stronger. That helps too. Take a break every hour or two that helps. We are not made to sit for 4 hours in the same position without a break,

I had my drivers seat modded by a local upholstery shop. For about $250 this is way more comfortable and is probably the cleanest/easiest option for that price point, IMO. I have a 7 hour drive ahead of me, leaving tomorrow. I'll let you guys know the results, but it can't be worse than stock :D. The guy said it should break in and conform a bit better after sitting in it for a bit.

What exactly did the shop do? Was the heating elements an issue?(if seats are heated)

Try a lumbar support product. There are many. I’ve used 2 and both worked well.

I can do more miles on my Harley than I can in the taco before I have to stop and stretch it out. Seats are meh in the taco.

They added an inch and a half thick piece of foam, starting at the lumbar, bolster to bolster. As the foam insert goes towards the headrest, it narrows to about 6 inches wide (so my shoulder blades can still press back) and goes down to 1 inch thick. You can sorta see the outline in my photo given that description.

Ahh, I see. Since they did not alter the top, I suppose the heating elements should not be effected. I wonder how the low density foam will hold long term. I am really considering this over the seat jackers, as my '17 is equipted with a moonroof, and space is..well.. limited.
I breezed through your thread, and didn't see an answer to this, but can your explain what the process was between you and the shop? Not sure what to expect honestly. I assume the truck spent a day or two these with alot of test fittings?

Ahh, so a different method to what subrat had done. Curious to hear back on the results.

Can you share some details on the process, with the upholster? (see my question to subrat on post#91)

    **EDIT**
I just noticed your profile reads 2020MY. Re-reading your post, it looks like your discomfort was from Lumbar support(or lack thereof). My complaint is with the lack of thigh support, where I assume the 2020's power seat would've resolved. :pout:

I took it in this morning at 7am. I drove it home at 8:45am. The guy said it can take 1 to 3 hours typically. They basically take your seat out of the car, carefully take the OEM cover off and expose the stock foam. Then they create whatever custom shape/insert you ask for and glue it to the factory foam, and then shape it a bit. Put the cover back on, put it back in the truck, have you sit in it and see if you like it. Rinse, repeat, until you're happy. They said to bring it back if I want any edits - that's pretty cool as it can be hard to tell sometimes until you've sat in it awhile. No two jobs are the same as everyone's body is a little different. I did lumbar on up, no seat cushion modification.

The shop has been around for 50 years and does this all the time, even for fancy/high end cars. Yeah the 2020 has an electric seat so I can tilt the sitting position forward or backward. The guy said the heating elements in the seat will still work just fine, it just might take longer to get the seat warm through the added layer of foam. Not too worried about that. Since they've been at it for awhile, I imagine the foam they use is battle tested. Not too worried about that either, for how easy they made it look to just get back in there and do more modifications for whatever reason.

everything works and the work they did has held perfectly for about the past 3 years with no loss of support at all. re: the process, well you'd need to find someone who's done it before or you'll be gambling results. the guys i used are a proper upholstery shop but when i talked to them they obviously had car setup experience. they knew what to do, i didn't need to tell them more than where i wanted it dropped, in the rear half of the bottom.

I drove my 2nd GEN for 10 years before I gave it to my son. Not once did I complain the seat was uncomfortable. My 2017 is definitely an uncomfortable seat. Of course I am 10 years older too....

165 lbs, 5'11" - The seat is definitely more comfortable after the upholstery upgrade. But the seat is only 1/4 of the equation. Sadly, the truck is still very uncomfortable for me to drive any distance over 3 hours. The remaining three factors are: the steering wheel doesn't adjust out toward me far enough; the headrest is ridiculously aggressive in its forward angle; and, I sit too high to view out the windshield so I sit with an aggressive head-forward posture.

Disclaimer: I have issues with my skeletal structure that make any vehicle uncomfortable to drive longer distances. It's getting worse as I get older. But the Tacoma is the worst out of the last 3-4 vehicles I've had. An Infinity G35 coupe was right up there for discomfort as a comparison. The vehicle I traded in for the Taco was a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it had the most comfortable seated position of any vehicle I've driven. Just my experience...
