The more I look at the videos the more the smart kitchen doesn’t make sense. I mean, it’s using so much room to nicely order utensils and cups. Utensils and cups!!! Seems like an inefficient use of space and pretty showy. The storage bin might be a good idea though.

 

Suppose it just depends on what you need/want. The kitchen has been an extremely popular accessory! If space is your primary concern, it does take up a descent amount. Here's a pic from the inside showing the backside of the kitchen.

 

The RSI website is listing these with free shipping. So the free shipping isn’t specific to just this vendor.

Might be a better idea to purchase from the source in case there is ever an issue you can go directly through the manufacturer instead of a third party which may or may not be still around when you have an issue. Also the turnaround could be quicker if you ever have to send something back.

Watched the video and the cap looks good but is it just me or does the cap seem a little short and angles in towards the cab quite a bit where you might be loosing some valuable interior space? My RLD looks more upright.

It's directly over the rear cross-member bed support. Any further, and it's just resting on aesthetic sheet-metal. ...I think.

 

It definitely sits on the bed sides more like a GFC does. That isn't really usable space though. I wouldn't consider that a big deal.

Will require rubber seal on the sides of the tailgate to be water tight. Not a surprise though.

 

I prefer the angle over the 90 degrees at the tailgate, aesthetically speaking of course.

 

The SmartCap definitely does not go all the way over the tailgate cap. Here's another angle to show that.

Looks like it follows the lines of the tailgate skin, so only the spoiler sticks out. Nice.

 

Some weight questions/MSRP questions for a 2020 6ft bed:

how much does it weigh/cost for the cap with just the diagonally sliding roof rack mounts?

how much does it weigh/cost with the window storage areas?

 

I swear that i read somewhere on the RLD thread that you could order one with one long window.....you would just lose some weight capacity on top.

Yes you can. You can also order it with any additional height you might want. I was thinking about going with an additional 3” in height (so it would be more like a A.R.E. MX cap or a Leer 180) but decided at the last minute to just get the standard height one.
