I'm getting rid of the chrome (I vinyl wrapped my fog light bezels this morning) and I'm trying to decide if I want to put on black overlay badging on the truck- or if I should just remove them. Would like to hear your thoughts on one way or the other (and if you have any pictures that could help- I can't find any that are a black Taco with black badging).

I know it's not black, but plastidipped bezels, overlays on badge, and vinyl on wheels. :homer:

The wheels were something I was planning (I'm going to vinyl wrap my side mirrors next). Did you do them or did you have someone do it?

They sell kits for sport and offroad owners to self-stick at home. I haven't seen anybody do them for the limited wheels, unfortunately. Keep in mind that anytime you need to get your tires mounted or worked on, it ruins the vinyl and you have to do it again. One of these days I'm going to stop being a cheapass and just buy new wheels.

    +1 for debadge
I plasti dipped my wheels then finally did the paint over them. They held up good especially because I didn't do the best prep/sand just in case I didn't like it. Paint was nicer.

Since you have a black truck, I don't know if going with black badges would look good. If you choose to go that route, I'd go with removing and replacing with black badges, not using overlays. You can find cheap black badges on ebay.
Another option is to plastidip your badges a dark grey, to give a little contrast.

The blacked out look is so overdone that i'm pretty sure Becky's Sienna is now blacked out.

Overlays equals spending money (minimal of course), and debadge equals free.
This advice from a fellow tacomianworldian
    Priceless:rofl:
Seriously though, you have to ask what’s your style. For me, I knew I wanted the black overlays. Black on cement is just an epic combo. Good luck OP in your choice.

Debadge it. Prevents ghosting on the paint job.

Well, I ended up taking the badges off. Looks clean - I need to give it a wash and get some new pics.

Not sure if I should be saying this out loud or not... but I actually found out about PlastiDip from this post 2 days ago... and I have no idea how I was not aware of this sooner... As soon as I started reading what it was - I went out and bought a bunch of cans. I've now PlastiDip'd my mirror caps (which turned out awesome) - and I'm deciding if I want to vinyl or plastidip the chrome part of my door handles (I've done 2 in vinyl and 2 in plastidip to see which one I like the looks of better).

    Derp is the shit.

I was never expecting my grille to hold up this well. Most recent pic from a few months back:

I have a Faux Pro grille that just lives in the crawlspace.

Ah yes, welcome to the "let's improve our forty thousand dollar purchases with a four dollar rattlecan" club. You're in good company here.

...just wait until you discover what we do to the interiors.

    :rofl:Best quote I've seen in a while!

I'm extremely impressed on how the look came out - it looks exactly like the vinyl wrap I did (the fog light bezel in the picture is vinyl). The one thing I wonder is going to be the durability (one reason why I did 2 door handles in both vinyl and PlastiDip - to see if one fares better than the other).

I've already started looking at what else I can PlastiDip... does everybody seem to get this addict craving once they do it? :drevil:

Yes. You start looking for things to black out. The sun reflecting off of the interior trim kicked off a whole bunch of stuff for me. I won't even mention the stupid visor stickers.

Your mirrors and bezels look great. One other thing for your mirrors, keep an eye out for these:

The funny part when it comes to some of the weird cost cutting choices that Toyota makes, they could save a ton of money not chroming over so much plastic. Hahaha!

Help me out here, you bought a limited but you don't like all of the Chrome? Isnt that the selling point of the Limited?

Not trying to be an ass, just a question is all.

It really does last until you don't want it to. I've cleaned bugs off of mine recently. I know if I got real close and personal with my electric power washer I could strip it right off. However a few feet back with my 25 degree nozzle it knocked the bug splatter clean without even harming the plastidip.

I've actually already had my eyes on those and some blacked out taillights. I'd get some other headlight enclosures - however, i REALLY like the LED headlights.

Actually, what drew me to the limited was the rims and all the accessories that were installed from the factory (tonneau cover, bed step, flaps, paint protection, LED bed lights, etc.). That, and it was one of very few Tacoma's the dealership had.
