If my window is down I’ll generally give a nonchalant wave to sharp looking 1st gens. Knowing what it takes to make and keep a good looking 1st gen it’s a show of props and a little bit of “hey look at me”.

I can't remember ever getting a wave from nor giving one to another 1st-gen. All I ever get are many compliments from non-1st-gen owners.
Around here, a Tacoma like mine is a pretty rare sight. The ones you do see mostly are beat up, faded, or otherwise showing a sad lack of owner pride.

there are certain model years that were deemed 'not worthy' to keep on the roads in the cold climate states, my state is not on that list, nor are my neighbor states, MN comes close but its not a direct border.

the current title owners of those 'unworthy trucks' would get a decent check, a thank you very little, would you be interested in buying one of these shiny new 2nd gens we have on the lot, and send the truck to the crusher, never to be seen again :(
how many were crushed? i would like to know if there is data out there or if its all on the 'hush-hush'
i have found a few on the local salvage lots that 'slipped through the cracks'

the 98-00 models are extremely rare around here and likely are all the way to the east of me

i gave a good hard look to an 01-04 lunar mist in Indianapolis back in April, right outside of the Brickyard, i saw him looking my direction going the other way, like damn, another 1st gen, so they must be rare to find in Indianapolis too!

I let the Jeep...people do that. I still see a fair amount of 1st gens around, though honestly I think it’s just cringey. So I never wave.

I definitely agree about the 2nd/3rd gen driver populace. Most of them seem to be more or less “normal” people looking for a nice vehicle that isn’t gargantuan in size. Which is totally cool.

Only time I've seen other tacos acknowledge me and mine is if they've got some level of modification (also I'll add it's typically only 1st gens that will even do that, at least from what I've experienced), otherwise it'll just be a quick glance because of my louder than stock exhaust. But boy when they do wave back or honk or whatever there's no feeling like it!

Also about a 20-1 ratio around here for newer gens to 1st gens. No waves. There's a nice one I see every Tuesday at the farmers market. Has small lift. There's a green xtra cab that parks by my work. Then saw 2 parked at the town casino yesterday. I see more single cabs than I do xtra or double. There's a mint double cab lunar mist TRD 4x4 with step bars driving around. Old man with beard in it. I want to holler at him and see what he wants for it.

I wave at most all first gen Tacoma's that catch my eye.. 2wd, 4wd, stock, modified, clean, trashed, heck even gardening and pool trucks can get a nod from me. Although many folks dont wave back (compared to other vehicles I have owned), it is quite fun when they do!

Seems a lot of the 4x4 guys are stunned when I wave from my 5 lug (below), though many wave back and/or thumbs up.. would you wave at this nutty guy from your 4x4?!

Hell yes. There are still a lot of 1st gens in my area, but I usually give a small wave or head nod. My first Taco was a 5 lug and I'd get another if I found a good deal. I think those wheels look awesome on your truck, would have to pick up a set.

I'd wave back for sure, have to admit tho I'd probably be caught a little off guard tho, but nonetheless, I'd gleefully wave back! Mostly only lifted 4x4 give ya the time of day around here, but I see plenty of 1st gens hanging on!
