    Lenz’s law.
But I think the loss from the alternator load pales in compression to a big mechanical fan being removed

Just a small thing there. The 3rd Gen has an ECU controlled alt. Part of the problem with boosting the output for an AGM.

I agree with you on a typical alt though.

It's weird how some threads devolve into a pissing match and some don't. Obviously these aren't for everyone, but they can definitely serve a purpose. Maybe it's just such an esoteric subject that people just take a side and stick with it. Curious interactions.

Yeah. It seems to me that since you've got an electric motor that dictates the fan speed, they can optimize the design of the fan to be more efficient. Whereas with an engine driven fan it has to drive a lot of air at a low rpm, which probably crucifies the efficiency.

And it's not like the fan doesn't load on the alternator and therefore the engine, it just doesn't do it as much due to the aforementioned efficiency gains. Altnerator efficiency isn't 100% either, but it's pretty good.

Even turd gens the load is negligible and won't cause what he was stating. That style of alt has been on cars for a long time now.

Maybe listen to the engineer. The more Amps an alternator has to put out, the higher the load becomes on the engine.

Yes but his point was that at the increased load of the alt because of an elec fan the HP gain would be obsolete. On the dyno with them running full bore we've yet to see a loss or no gain in power. Especially in increased engine response, efficiency, and decreased strain. Then with little load on the alt negligible HP loss. I'm not a physicist or electrical engineer but I know what I've seen on the dyno and can draw a conclusion based on not only mine but 1000s of these proven tests over and over again. Some people have even gone as far as doing different types of mech. fans, no fans, A/C on/off, elec fans, mech water pump vs electric, etc. There is a lot of data out there that didn't support the claims. You can probably do all the calculations and stuff and understand that end of it better than I. I'm uncertain if he used that calculation or not.

Because engineers sometimes over think and what looks good on paper may not prove out in the real world. It happens everyday. Not saying all engineers are bad some are just stuck in the office and don't understand application in the real world. There are a few I listen to pretty intently.

Perhaps the title of this thread should be changed from "cooling issues?" to "remove mechanical fan for more HP?"

The difference in HP is the tunes between the two. There’s additional details in the tuning threads.

Also look at the curves and were it makes that power.

Last time I read the thread about this, this was 2-3 years ago, Matt tried fooling around with the Camry tune on the Tacoma engine and didn't get the see results. That's if I recall correctly. It's not important enough for me to go through the thread.

Sounds like you're delving pretty deep into the reliability of your product - kudos man...that's rare nowadays. I dunno - 2019 saw almost 250K Tacomas sold, we've got maybe 60K members here? Of those, how many are serious enough or hardcore off-roaders? I think that most of them are pavement princes that go out in the woods now and then. For you guys that "walk the walk' your product is gonna be a huge help. I wish other companies/engineers/designers did what you're doing. I can't tell you how many times I've purchased a "quality" product that had a bargain-basement weak link ruining the whole thing. A $1K dollar item crippled by a $0.79 part is garbage in my eyes.

Thanks for the tip OP and doing the ground work to find out which fan fits the best in our factory shroud. Still going with a CSF radiator swap, so hopefully these 2 together will be a cooling monster. Can’t wait to hear your final testing results.

The 2nd gen and 3rd gens are the same. I confirmed with CSF. The only difference Is the 3rd gen kits now include bushing adapters for the 4 mounting points. Unfortunately they aren’t out yet(ETA end of sept) so I might just grab a 2nd and machine the bushings.(they look pretty simple) depends on how impatient I get.

Oh sweet. I compared measurements and outlet and inlet sizes and they seemed the same. I just didn't want to take that amount of a chance.
