Hi Mosccat. I have a MT so it’s a non jbl HU. I hadn’t seen the note about powering camera from only from RFCC, thanks for pointing that out. I wonder if that could effect rear camera too or how I could even address that having an OEM front camera. I’ll try to hook up an external camera just to see what happens, I’m wondering if maybe it’s not compatible with MTM HU or something.

would love to hear if anyone else with MTM had successful install. I’ll post up my luck with adding external camera to the mix.

Yeah, tricky. I seem to remember somewhere deep in this thread someone questioned if this rfcc unit would work with MTM. I don’t think any conclusion was made.

Contact FreshMex by phone, I believe he’s more responsive that way... either that or phone car solutions and ask if MTM HU will work with rfcc...

You could also just for the sake of it wire a new camera into the front. The Nikita cameras are pretty wide angled, more so than OEM.

Hi @FreshMexicanTaco. Were you ever able to verify/test 2020's with MTM? As you can see from my previous posts, Its not working for me. Update @mosccat, I hooked up an external camera, If I put truck into reverse, external camera works fine and I can toggle between the 2, however once out of reverse, Neither front nor rear camera works even though I can hear the controller clicking. Im beginning to believe this unit is not compatible with 2020 trucks with MTM, probably a different wiring pinout at the HU to accommodate the different OEM cameras. Whatever the case, does not appear to work at all for me. Freshmex can you comment? If found not to be compatible, can I return?

I'm not sure if there's an actual link. But does anyone have a install video? I know there's one on the OP first post but the install is very vague and there's too many pages to go through, so hopefully someone can help me save some time.

I’ve been meaning to test out the bracket I bought to mount the camera on the face of the grille rather than under the letters but haven’t done anything with that yet. Mounting the camera and getting the cable through the firewall are really the only interesting parts of this.

Pictures would be nice. It just gets confusing when it comes to the wires. I can't visualize what you are explaining since there's more wires in the box than what is really needed for the install.

Well, you have options. My recommendation is to toss the XXL rca cord and buy a 6 pin extension cable. Then you get your camera in rough position, route its six pin to where the grille meets the truck, connect the extension somewhere easy to disconnect, and route the extension along the fender to the firewall (I picked passenger side). Get it through a grommet (yes photos would be nice for that, maybe I'll get one today). Once inside the kick, connect the pigtail to the 6 pin which turns to rca, power and the plug for the controller button.

Now you run a short (3' or so) rca to behind the radio from the kick together with 12v + and ground (I made a heat shrink harness to bundle these 3 together into one sleeve, could use harness tape or heat shrink or zip ties or spiral loom or nothing).

At the stereo end, plug in the two T harnesses (can't mess that up) and the last step is bullet connectors on the power leads to connect to +12v and ground provided in the T harness. Those are the only crimps required.

Tons of videos and photos of how to remove trim panels if that's what you're asking for/looking for. MESO ones are some of the best. The 2wd low mod has some good ones too if you're working the passenger side.

 

How much more detail do you need?

 

Have you actually pulled the gear out of the box? In post #1 there is a photo of all wires connected. Get the gear out of the box and lay it out in front of you. Connect everything as you would but on the floor. It’s literally plug and play, you’ll be fine.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing it, go to your local car stereo shop and they will be able to install it for you.

 

So pretty much I'm using the long RCA wire that came with the camera. I don't have much time to wait for the 6 pin connector if I were to order it. But before I fish the wire through the firewall I wanted to test the camera first to make sure its working. I double tapped the "mode button" and all I get is a black screen. First I thought there was no power going to the camera so I pulled the red wire and stripped it a little more and re crimped it. And there's still a black screen.

 

The only thing we can recommend is to triple check all of your connections. If you can check if the camera is getting power that be good too.

 

Be sure that all of the connectors are firmly seated. You can ignore that "+12V Out" wire that's shown in your picture. Connect the red wire from the camera's RCA connector (barely visible in your pic) to the wire marked "Trigger" (or something like that) on the Germes unit. Then the 12vdc will be supplied to the front camera only when necessary. The ground to the front camera is picked up through the RCA connector shield wire.

 

Yeah i just got done removing the wires from the HU
and reconnecting them, making sure all of them click into place. I started the truck up and still a black screen will show up. I've noticed the Germeslab unit will have a blinking blue light when I double tap the mode button. But other than that there's still no picture.

 

What about your reverse camera? When you shift from reverse to first are you seeing either cameras?

 

I don't have a trigger wire. I connected the red wire from the RCA cable to the red "+12V out" cable on the harness.

I definitely can switch between the front and back cameras on the steering wheel. I have yet to try changing the shifter, I just haven't done so yet. Because I have a bunch of wires dangling underneath the steering column since I had to remove the panels.

 

Does the unit output an audible "click" when you are manually swapping the cameras during testing?

 

Are you not connecting power via the green circled cable?

 

You need to connect your ground. This is why I did the 6 pin exension harness b/c the long rca only provides power and I didn't want to ground to the chasis inside the engine bay.

You've fed power through the rca but you haven't supplied ground.

But we really need to see what the red connector is hooked up to, that's how you inject power into the camera itself via the pigtail.

IMHO, OP really botched an opportunity to make this truly plug and play. It's not p&p. You have to crimp on the bullets to the red cable and there isn't enough length to get from germes harness through red cable to pigtail to camera to grille if you go that way. Or, if you instead use the power lead embedded with the rca cable you need a ring terminal for ground when you connect to the red power connector _and_ all of the length of that cable is entirely wasted b/c the rca has to plug in to the pigtail.

One 6 pin extension and a 3' rca substitution solves 100% of this silliness and would have cost OP very little to provide via repackaging since he had already sourced a camera.

Natika WD-011 camera will pick up the ground through the video cable shielding. Myself and many others have it connected that way.
