V6 feels flat between 2-3k rpm, the power curve feels more even with 2.7L but struggles going uphill.

I guess its all this atkinson fuckery. I mean, my truck does get pretty good gas mileage and I have no real complains with power. Would love to drive I4 with 5 spd though.

Maybe if it was in a 2nd gen single cab the combo would work for me. IMO the third gen is kind of portly for a 4 cylinder.

I meant to say that I would love to take one for a test drive. No way I would own one.

I wouldn't say flat, at 2k mine is pretty decent. What i've noticed is between 1200-1500 is flat. Anything above 3k and your making some really good power.

Interestingly, that entry missed the Motus. And unfortunately, Motus missed the entire freaking boat with a $35k sporttourer. LoL!

No. I've had both (just sold my 2.7). Didn't notice much difference at all. Both will get me from Maine to Tennessee in the same exact time. Both will shift like crazy on any interstate grade, even gentle ones. The 2.7 is much easier to work on, things like oil changes and general maintenance. Toyota's bullet proof rep comes from building stout 4 cylinder engines, not the Otto/Atkinson 6 cylinder design which is engineered for economy.

Yeah the 3.5L V6 is a very underwhelming engine in terms of power.....hope it blows me away with reliability! I would love a 5.7L Tundra next time but will have to go used....new Tundras are going Turbo V6 soon!

I had a 2017 4cy with a 5 speed. Great truck and if you let it rev it was happy. My 2020 v6 does everything my 4 did but easier plus I can pull a 21 foot ranger bass boat or my dump trailer that I did not attempt with my old truck. Gas mileage was better in the 4 but not by much and in reality they both suck at mpgs.

Tundra's 0-60 is the same as taco's, just saying.

Make sure your friend with the Tundra DOES NOT google:

    Tundra Cam Tower leaks

Fingers crossed he got lucky and has a good one..

Well considering v6 has around 100 hp more and gets pretty much the same mpgs as a 4 banger, i think its not that bad at all. I got advertised or better mpgs with e rated ATs. Now i got C rated, thank god.

That is the benefit of the Otto/Atkinson design that Toyota developed. It is all about economy. The difference in MPGs between my I4 and V6 was "maybe" 2 mpg. I could baby the 2.7 and squeeze 25 mpg, something my V6 really couldn't do. Honestly, I didn't notice much of a power drop at all when I moved to the 2.7 (but I don't tow).

The 2.7 Ford EcoBeast has 400 lb ft of torque and 325hp and gets better mileage than both :-(

Thats why i really would love to test drive 4 banger with 5 spd. Its quite hard to believe that its not much difference at all.

I know the eco beasts put out impressive numbers, im just not a fan of them at all.

i have both the 5.7 and the 3.5 in my garage. the 5.7 feels good because that silky-smooth, robust powerband. i wouldnt want to have this as a daily though. its boring. the 3.5 is way more fun to drive. probably has to do that the truck is lighter, its manual...or maybe because i have full bolt ons and it caught a virus lol.

My sis has a 2018 limited sequoia. Its boring as hell to drive and its the size of a boat. Taco is 100 times more fun.
If sequioa was a manual maybe i would change my mind :)

dude. if the sequoia or the tundra was standard. i dunno...i dunno! it would keep me a bit more picqued about the truck for sure! the tundra would need to be single cab short bed though. keep the 4wd so we can stage launch lol. could you imagine a maunal tundy that has that maggy whine? now THAT would be fun. the sequoia though...i really dont know what you could do to spice it up. i went from 4runner to sequoia when it got its revision. lets just say this...im going back 4runner. i dont need that much real estate running around town. ill compromise lol.
