That's the thing though, the off road is not 'better' or more 'value' than any other trim. That's the fallacy here.

I have a relative who has a sport and it is very capable, especially with his off road tires and lift. It's still not quite an OR model, but far from something that should remain a pavement princess. It is still a TRD after all.

Debatable. More skid plates, rear locker, recovery hook, crawl control (except on MT). Short of suspension and a few cosmetics that are mostly available, the OR is basically the Pro. And that's from the factory without any mods.

Sport with MT has the same size rear end. So do all 3rd gens with MTs for that matter.

Why everyone says the sport suspension is crap? Are you just repeating what everyone is saying? Have you taken a good test drive in a sport? Because its far from being "crap"

I go offroad quite a bit in the summer and it perfectly fine, just gotta go a bit slower. Sport suspension carries loads quite nice, since its on the stiffer side. Also, it has excellent road manners, i feel like im in a sports car at times. Not sure wtf you guys are talking about.

Why does OP need more skid plates, rear locker, recovery hook, and crawl control?

I love the big diff arguments. How many tiny diffs really blow up? I tow with my tiny diff. Treat it rough. The only thing I don't do is go full send in the mud like a hamfisted goon, freespinning the wheels until they cook.

My tiny diff gets the job done.

Well, seeing as he's considering the Pro, obviously those things are on it.

And he clearly stated he's not off-roading in any significant way.

Which makes the money spent on a TRD Pro even more interesting. If he's maybe considering the future possibility of off roading, then the OR is a far better option than a Pro in that it is cheaper and still has the off road toys the Pro has (except Fox suspension). Again, it's more value for your money.

That is impossible sir. You cant tow with a tiny diff, just like you cant go offroad in a sport or install a canopy without the bed stiffeners. Yota engineers suck.

^^ THIS RIGHT HERE ^^ People tend to trash the Sport b/c of the suspension, the sport is extremely capable for OR. Interesting enough, the same people that owns OR Tacos often quote that the OEM suspension is garbage as well, look how many of them are in the for sale section. WTF:crazy:

Me, this is my 2nd TRD Sport (2018 and now 2020) and LOVE it! Toyota tuned differently the 2020 models and the throttle response is way better now, i never complaint with the 2018 but you can feel the difference for sure!

I'd guess many just parrot info to post and justify what they purchased.

You my friend are TW brainwashed . In your mind Toyota shouldn't even sell the Sport or the Pro . I dont want a OR and love my Sport . Actually I love them all from a SR to a Pro and any year but this third gen is great .

Read the original post. He's not considering the Pro for it's off-road-ability. He's concerned about suspension and street driving.

Actually, I love my OR, but I know it isn't for everyone. However, my opinion is my opinion and I'm entitled to it. I've never once said those shouldn't be sold. However, I do believe you're mostly paying for the name with the pro, especially if you A. Aren't going to use it as a pro or B. Plan to upgrade it. The sport and pro are 2 different levels in my mind while the OR is closer to the pro. If all you want is the fake hood scoop, then get the pro. And for the record, I decided the OR was the best value in my opinion long before I ever considered getting a Tacoma, let alone even hearing of TW.
