We had a sort of similar experience in Carson-Iceberg Wilderness, I think the weekend after you guys went (per the backpacking thread).

Passed a camp area - tarp, water bottles, propane canisters all left behind. You could tell it's there for a while too. It was a pretty out there area that wasn't easy to get to. It just makes me think, whoever got there has to be in good enough shape to make it, appreciate nature enough to do it, but then give zero fucks about leaving it in as good or better shape than before.

Yeah, people suck. I just sent a remind to a few buddies that where we will be this weekend won’t have toilets and to come prepared for that. Often time people don’t think about it.

You guys should try camping in the south.
Almost every dispersed campsite fire pit I’ve been to had remnants of burned garbage, tires, house hold Appliances (frequently riddled with bullet holes) and broken glass all over the place.

Edit: it seemed clean campsites were the exception

It's like Tread-Lightly has busted their collective asses to make things better only to have a new generation fuck it all up-and I'm not speaking of generations in the age sense but their "discovery" of camping and "overlanding".

Can't argue that peeps should take their shit with them but in this picture, you have a dumpster. In the article, the agency admits the spike in camping numbers. Since district knows all this, they should probably have the trash picked up more frequently or place a bigger dumpster.

I know, I know. People are slobs. But management agencies have to accept some of the responsibility too.

August 28, 2020 – Because of hot weather and dry conditions, campfires are now prohibited on recreational facilities owned and operated by the Nevada Irrigation District (NID).

The ban includes developed campgrounds around Scotts Flat Reservoir and Rollins Reservoir, as well as dispersed camping and recreational facilities in the higher elevations around the Jackson Meadows – Bowman Lake areas.

Under the new rules, campfires and open fires fueled by wood or charcoal are prohibited. Portable cooking stoves, lanterns that use liquefied or bottled fuel and propane-fueled portable fires are permitted because they can be instantly switched off.
