Rafters are slow motion by yourself but they're going up

Got most of the rafters in , should finish tomorrow no problem . I need to dick around with the vapour / air barrier and some blocking over the timber rafters so I'm leaving out any 2x12 rafter that lands in the timber rafters zones until last so I can move around up there without being worried about walking on plastic

I made a deal with my wife that I would only cut branches off the trees back there that were actually in the way , couple more to come off now that I'm up at roof height

Finished up the last of the 2x12 rafters today .

Where the timber trusses terminate in the exterior walls , I needed to pack out the void left above the timber rafters .

For this I used some 3/4" plywood cut at a 22.5 degree angle (5 in 12 roof pitch)

Stapled and screwed blocks in place

After that I folded the housewrap flap back up I had cut out to create the beam pockets and taped that all together and to the timber , completing the air barrier 'bag' around the timber ends .

I forgot to take a picture but the plastic air and vapour barrier then comes down over the top of the timber rafter and is taped to the housewrap on top edge of timber build up then notches around crossing timbers to be caulked and taped to the rest of the vapour barrier that will be installed at insulation time

    Rafters all up

Have to install blocking tomorrow and put tarp back up as we are supposed to get rain on Sunday

Why aren’t your screws in line and unevenly placed? Is that a Canadian code?

This thing is going to be a quiet mofo, you could probably shoot a mother fucker in there and wood chip them and no one would hear.

Spent the last few days doing stuff not that pic worthy

Got all my frieze and pressure blocks installed between the rafters and also spent some time with a straight edge and cordless power planer making sure the bottoms of the rafters planed out to each other and more importantly that they were planed out so future ceiling drywall would tuck over timber rafters .

I then string lined my overhangs and cut rafter tails and installed sub fascias

Double sub fascia at either end works to help carry gable overhang rafters

I also framed my gable end overhangs

Tomorrow the tarp comes off hopefully for the last time and I start strapping and sheeting the main roof area

Got 2x4 strapping installed on one side today and 2 rows on other side that are laid out on 16" centres ensuring the rafters are straight prior to installing the rest of the strapping .

Feels good to be using up all this 2x4 I've been accumulating for the last few years , almost all of it has already participated in a few foundation pours

Will get other side done tomorrow , then I can move on to plywood on Monday

Wow, so this is a little different than the way we do it. I have a couple of questions. Are the 2x4s just to ensure proper spacing of the rafters or is this something for structural integrity(snow load)? Is this a code that must be followed in your province? The only time we do this is if we are using corrugated metal otherwise we nail plywood straight to the rafters. What kind of nail gun are you using? It is ring shank nails? Sorry for all the questions, I’m just really impressed and love the way things are coming along.

the 2x4 strapping is there to provide cross ventilation for the rafter bays

    I use Senco Framepro 600's and 601's

Framing nails are galvanized ring shank
