I've seen a lot of hate toward the Aisin AC60 transmission that comes in the 3rd gen Tacos, but I love it. Why?
    1. Fewer parts, simpler
    2. More efficient, lighter
    3. 2 overdrives
    4. ECT-i (SelectShift)
    5. Smaller, compact

I checked out the paper; ~440 N*m for torque, which converts to ~325 ft*lb. I think I recall Mat w/OVTune saying the transmission was rated for more than 325 ft*lb.

This line-up reference (https://www.aisin-aw.co.jp/en/products/drivetrain/lineup/at.html) shows 450 N*m, or 332 ft*lb. That seems low compared to how Mat's been hammering on his.

Pretty sure it’s good to 450/500 clutch and flywheel probably around the 325-350 range

After many months of lurking and learning I decided I had to make an account and reply to this! Glad to be here dudes.

Ive read so much hate going back to 2016 about the AC60. I bought my baby used back in February with 60k on the odo, and I only have 6 months of experience with it, but I absolutely love this trans. The hate is mind boggling to me. It shifts super smooth, without any gear hunting or delays. What gives? Reading this post made me unbelievably happy. Thanks OP.

Now the hard part is figuring out whether i want to drain and fill periodically or trust toyota/aisin and just leave it alone.

Welcome to TW! You chose a great truck.

I drove my buddies 19 off road AT and it drove just fine. Not sure what all these people are talking about. Its an automatic transmission, it will shift a lot. They all do that.

Regarding the fluid, personally i would drain and refill if i had the AT. Maybe every 20-30k miles? I dont trust that lifetime fluid bullshit, just like i dont trust 10k mile intervals.

Hey thank you! Yeah I love this thing! Perfect for my needs.

Agreed on the 10k OCI. Im an over maintainer man. I change at 3k. I know its wasteful but I cant help it dude. And yeah, maybe I should change it out. Im keeping this truck for a long time. I doubt anything in this truck besides the motor is truly "lifetime".

Poster above was reffering to AT, not sure if you caught that.

Havent done my diffs yet, as im only at 18k miles. Planning to do the rear diff in few weeks. Will do transfer, tranny and front diff next summer. But i already did 3 oil changes. My engine oil is black at 5k, so it makes me sleep better at night. Also, its cheap and gives me a chance to inspect the undercarriage.

Thats a good reason! According to the dealer service records, the previous owner of my truck got the rear diff serviced at 30k, so I did it again at 61k with amsoil svg. Overkill for how I use the truck but like I said, im an over maintainer. A fool and his money quickly part ways. And oil changes are cheap with walmart down the street! Oem yzzd1 filter for $7 and 6 qts of pennz plat for $28, easily affordable every 3 months

There was a guy that posted his oil analysis someplace that said it was fine at 10000 miles. Off topic and I don't have a link so I guess this is spam but it's a world of opinions. Transmissions work hard. Not sure that I would go too long without changing that out since it's designed to shift more than a drunk sailor

If you do all the maintenance yourself, why not. Its cheaper and you know its done right. Your truck will thank you with many trouble free years.

    Hopefully :)

Aisin makes great stuff, even their hubs are superior to others such as Warn and Yukon
