It was totally my fault, I got too excited when the aluminum oil assembly arrived today, and I just want to see if my filter works. long story short, I think I got the plastic plug jammed in there. Is there anyway to get it out?

Use some pliers, you won’t be damaging the aluminum filter by pulling it.

I really dislike those plastic tubes... Really awkward using them.

its a lot easier to work with when its mounted to the motor.

You're supposed to pull the metal plug, put that in, drain the oil from the filter housing, then push on that plastic drain from either side, maybe give it a little wiggle, and it'll pop right off, then remove the housing and change your filter.

That aluminum housing is well worth the upgrade. The stock plastic housings are junk.

You don't have to use the plastic spigot. Just have the drain pan ready and unscrew the whole cap. I've done four filter changes this way and haven't spilled any on the ground.

Be sure to use a generous amount of oil on the threads when you install the cap. Aluminum on aluminum will otherwise gall. That's why Toyota switched from aluminum to plastic.

When that plastic drain plug is covered in oil, it slips in and out of the hole easier.

OP, that plastic drain plug was probably defected and a little wider than normal. That’s probably the reason it was so hard to pull out.

Op. When it's on the truck, put the spigot in the crook of your thumb and index then use your fingers around the outside of the canister and push sideways. Use shear not tension. It's akin snapping a carrot. ALWAYS use the drain spigot. Way less mess.

Do you know if 3rd gen V6 Tacomas have multiple oil filter and housing specification?

This one I picked up at the dealership today
    filter.jpg
, the parts guy ask me what year of the Tacoma, mine is 2020 TRD Sport, he gave me this

the filter itself does not have rubber rings around it.

But @McRib suggested Mobil 1 filter do

    Screen Shot 2020-08-27 at 9.23.46 PM.jpg

According to Amazon, this won't fit.

It's just odd, Toyota gotta just use screw-on filter canisters like everyone else

Nope, snap in, pop out. Been doing oil changes on this set up for 10 years now!

    This!

See below, a lot easier when the housing is attached to the mount on the block, lot more leverage.

Never screwed one in and out. Snap in, snap out once housing is drained.
