The best setup (I'm biased) is a camper top instead of an RTT. I get that most people can't sleep in a 5' bed Taco, but if you can fit diagonal or sleep with your knees bent, a camper top is better than any other option bar none.

My camper has been great with my long bed. I built a bed platform that has been extremely useful for other purposes too. I've used it as a mobile office dozens and dozens of times, and having all my gear organized into the platform makes packing for trips much faster and easier. My top is fully optioned out so it's between a GFC and a RTT in cost, but there is literally zero setup and it's useful for so many other things. If you buy a cheap or used topper, you can be all in for less than the cost of a hardshell RTT.

My platform is built out to custom fit with the walk-in rear tailgate replacement, so I have about 6'4" of length in the sleeping area.

I've never been in a roof top tent but I have bought a mattress recently. If the mattress is the same quality mattress as one that goes in your house I definitely see why they cost so much. That's my only guess why A tent would cost over a grand. I was shocked in the mattress store. It's the first time I'd ever bought a new one.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I can assure you the mattress in any and all of my RTTs isn’t the quality of a home one.
As far as the debate on tents. To each their own, just like a cooler or a fridge. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.
Go with your gut instinct, we camp out a good bit up in NC. I think the best thing out of an RTT is keeping me off the ground. Sucks to get washed away...and at least I can here the bear climbing my truck to greet me instead of stepping on me :)
I agree about the camper shell, it’s hard to beat unless you have a full blown camper back there.

There's a big plus on the RTT side of the house in that you aren't sleeping on rocks or uneven/bumpy terrain. I'm normally on the ground in a sleeping bag....something I have got to upgrade soon. My old ass wakes up cranky and sore now days. I at least have an air mattress that we bought for company a few months back, so I figure I'll give that a try next time out.

You need to get on it, before you get too old where the ladder becomes a pain in the ass, and then you go back to a ground tent!

    On another note.

Picked up a dual swing out today for the taco from another TW member. Awesome guy lives here in ATL. I think people have been confusing me with him lol, as his truck is also cement.

I am about to upgrade the suspension as my springs are gonna like the extra weight.

I have lived out of my truck full time for long periods of time. I loved. I have a woman that had domesticated me now though. The camper shell route was great back then. I do dream of a roof top tent though because it reminds me living in a portable tree house.

GFC vs super charger, all new suspension and a hammock or ground tent is how the math works in my head. I ended up with the Gucci RTT bc it was 1k off new, the fastest setup of one I’ve ever witnessed and was never slept in before.

Now about that SC or TT kit! :ballchain:

Who doesn't like pitching a tent? I mean....as long as the pole gets to come out of the tent, then it's all good, right?

Opinions on what to list my wheels and tires at? 17" sport wheels with the Open Country A30s. 12k miles.

Wheels and tires in perfect condition. I see a set listed up in Dalton for $600 and that seems...optimistic.

My general rule of thumb for OEM wheels is $100 per wheel + what you think is reasonable for the tires (probably somewhere around 50% of original value unless tread is low).

I concur with @CowboyTaco assessment. If the tires are in decent shape, $600 is a reasonable asking price. You could always ask $700 and be open to negotiate.

With the state of the world, every market is flooded with inflated pricing. I get the reasoning, but I personally still refuse to pay what people are asking:
$1k+ for OEM take off Tacoma wheelsets
$3k+ for used Mtbr bikes that retail for $3k
    GTFO

I sold my factory wheels and tires last month for $700. I had them up for $750. They only had about 3k on the tires.

Wow, I figured no one would want these. Thanks.

Basically pays for the new tires.

The kid that bought mine didn't really want to pay more for new tires, so he just bought mine and was going to keep the tires and sell the extra wheels to make some money back.

FWIW I'm looking for a set and I'm willing to pay about $300 for sport/or OR 5/600 for pro oem rims plus something like what cowboy said I would pay half of what they tires are worth (adjusted for miles/deprec). That being said I'm a deal hunter and in no hurry but the way I see it is if I spend anymore I might as well get some custom ones I really like.

Also to be fair clearly others are willing to spend more maybe or at least I see some disappear off FB. GLWS
