What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I did think that they were side specific, I didn’t realize they were that much different. Damn.

 

That’s what Bilstein told me when I was selecting shocks.

 

Speaking of which, I’m going to be doing that very thing soon. I’ve been wondering what shocks I should go with and also new coil overs. It will be the first time I’ve done it and I’ve had the truck almost 100,000 miles. I just put JBA upper control arms on and now I just have to do the shocks and coils.

Recommendations? There is a leveling kit On my truck, that was done by the PO.

Ps, anyone with a leveling kit I definitely recommend the JBA upper control arms. They are sweet, and give you more range and Are grease-able. Ohhh yea. Also your control arm won’t bang Into your coils at full extension.

 

Anyone had to replace their brake booster yet? I just did this past weekend. 205K on the truck. Used a reman unit from RockAuto. Worked out pretty good. No pics.

Also installed an alignment tab kit from TC for the LCAs.

 

I replaced my booster back in January. Used a local place that makes them so far so good. Feels a little different than the stock one tjoy

 

Yeah, this one feels a little different, but not horrible. I'll get used to it.

 

Reinstalled my cruise control. Before I had removed the module to fit my air compressor under the hood. I had also swapped to a lexus steering wheel before, so the control stick on the new steering wheel wouldn't work with my system.

Made a bracket to mount it under the intake mounted to the fender. Had to extend the wiring so the plug would reach too. It's tucked up in there real good now.

Modified part of the steering wheel to fit my OEM CC control stick. Didn't have time/didn't wanna buy resistors to make the lexus one work with my setup, so had to get creative.
Zip ties worked out really well actually for mounting. The casting of the center steering wheel structure had some weird contours so I wasn't gonna be able to drill and tap holes. It's solid though and it's going anywhere.

Stoked to have cruise control again. Definitely will need it on this long ass road trip I have coming up.

 

I might have to ping you about this as I "think" mine has a vacuum leak...

Has anyone put this in? is it worth it? Waste of time and money?

 

I don't think you can beat the OEM filter/air box setup. Unless it's a pure drag truck and filtration isn't a priority.

 

It'll prob make some fun noises. and that's about it. "Cold air intakes" are a bit of a wash imo

 

I have one but didn’t buy it. I would say it’s worth it if you’re running a supercharger. No if you’re stock boi.

 

I started hearing a hissing when I shut off the motor. Quite loud actually. Then developed a high idle. There were no other symptoms. I am told it would have progressed to loss of braking power eventually.

 

I got the Bilstein 5100 form Amazon. They can lift the truck up to 2”and I am very happy so far.

 

Side note to Amazon purchases. Bilstein had informed me that amazon is not an authorized retailer of their product and it’s possible they won’t honor any warranty. Bilstein thinks amazon seeks knock off products. Mine looked legit and ate even stamped with the Bilstein name.

What would you expect it to sell for?

Before we begin, yes, I am aware that modifications do not add value to the vehicle. I'll save everyone the trouble of typing that. Haha. I will briefly list some of the truck's features so you'll have an understanding of the vehicle.

Anyway, The truck is a RUST FREE 2001 tacoma with only 87,000 miles. Yes, you read that right. No tricks or gimmicks. I bought it bone stock with 54k miles in 2016 iirc. I am considering selling it because I don't have time to wheel like I used to.

KBB has it between $7-10K for private party sale, BUT... It's a RUST FREE 1st gen with only 87,000 miles. These things are worth more than gold here. You all know how they sell.

The good - There's literally nothing wrong with it. It has ZERO rust. 87,000 miles. 2.7L. manual trans. Trail gear Dual Cases with Radesigns triple sticks. Front and rear lockers, 5.29 gears, all the armor, winch, spare parts, recovery gear blah blah blah. See my build for specifics.

The bad - It's been wheeled and the body shows it. I mean, it's not a raisin, but there are no perfect body panels.

Its not a v6 so not the most desirble version. But still super nice. I actually think the lockers and crawlbox will help you here.


I don't know what the market is in TN, but id guess a bit lower than some of the places out west. Obviously no rust is a bit plus for your area. Still I don't think you'd get more than 10k for it and that's on the higher end. If it was a V6 you could push that possibly.

It's been used and abused and people will know that. So 8-9k seems do able.




now if you wanna bring it to CO or WA you could probably get 12 for it haha
