That’s cheap from rearend specialties. They quoted me 1500 but I ended up going with Shaffer’s since it’s closer to home.

It depends if they are replacing the bearings. Was that quote with bearing replacement?

It was for gears, front/rear elocker, front/rear solid spacers, and rear axle bearings/seals

Rear End Specialties quoted me $1500 a couple weeks ago.
That's if I supply the gears, bearings and front locker. He said they could supply the bearings for $150 per kit but would need to double check the price.

If I were to go the route of ECGS Labor Day Sale I'd need:

I already have the ECGS driver side bushing to replace the bearing in the diff so don't need that.
    front gears/install kit
    rear gears/install kit
    front locker

    Anything else I'm missing?

So basically the $1500 is labor to set up your supplied parts. yuk.

Yup, welcome to the Bay Area.
Gotta figure they have to pull both diffs, take them apart and reassemble.
At least that includes a diff fluid change after 500 miles.

Edit: I believe it comes out a bit more than if I buy 3rds and do the install myself.
But I won’t have to lift a finger

I'm not in the bay area but understand labor rates. That's also dropping the keys off and not lifting a finger. I will be doing all the R/R.

Yeah, I’ve gone back and forth on this forever.
Do I do ECGS thirds or have a shop do everything?
I’ve done all my own work from suspension swaps, welded on sliders, welded new skid plate mounts, welded frame ends, replace my whole AC system, timing belt, built my own camper, added a 2nd gas tank and a lot more.
Recently I decided I really don’t want to work on the ground under my truck any more if it’s a big project.
And so, this is the 1st work in 8 years and 125,000 miles to be done by a mechanic.
    Well...outside oil changes and alignments.

I priced just the parts with the rebuild kit from Summit, $757. I ordered the complete unit from ECGS for $786 plus shipping. I'm shipping my broken one back for rebuild, est turn around 2 weeks. I currently have one of my spares in the truck so I'm not down. But still need to have my front regeared.

I ordered pre-assembled third and clamshell from ECGS. With bushing, new bearings, solid spacers, and gear oil it came to $3,973. When I return the cores I'll get $1,950 minus return shipping, so the grand total will be $2,023. Then I'll have a weekend to put them in with a buddy so I'll have to pay for beer and food too.

I originally planned on going to Schaffers but they wanted me to order pre-assembled third and clamshell and they would install it for $850. So I just decided to do it myself and save a buck. I'll probably hate doing it but I'll be glad I did it in the end.

Doing the diff swap, even the rear, isn't that bad. Took me maybe 2 hours. Wasn't my first but the first on my truck.
$2023 for front and rear sounds about right. I was looking at $1500 without the fancy stuff from them.

For those who are having a shop do it, keep in mind that if you buy the gears yourself from ECGS you'll avoid having to pay CA sales tax.

I had West Coast Differentials in Rancho regear my front. Labor was $350. I had the parts. Done in less than a day. I kinda wished my rear diff wasn't on the east coast right now...

I'm from San Jose but I took a trip up to Hunters 4x4 in Citrus Heights. I regeared to 5.29 with rear ARB lockers, dual air compressors installed.. Installation came out to be around $1,700 .
