Holy Moses - the directions, in general, are not amazing (from Pioneer, anyway). The stuff I've found here has been a godsend - so to give back, I'll briefly outline what I did to get the stupid CarAVAssist to work.

    1) Connect to the phone via Bluetooth.
    2) Go to the HOME SCREEN by touching the soft button in the top left corner of the 'screen' with the blocks on it.
    3) SWIPE RIGHT TO LEFT. If the display doesn't swipe right, try again. After swiping right, you will see 'Connectivity' and there will be 'CarAVAssist' (same icon as on the phone) on the 6600 screen.
    4) During this process, the 6600 will likely complain about being connected to CP/AA and say that it'll have to stop in order to transfer settings - this is A-OK.
    5) Go to the PHONE - start the CarAVAssist app.
    6) Click on the grey-ish box with a PLUS (+) sign in the middle.
    7) I'd probably just select the 'Connect from Pioneer in-dash receiver' and click 'next'
    8) It will ask "Connect to the Pioneer in-dash receiver?" - select 'ok'
    9) Et voila. It's connected.

I thought this part was odd and even harder to follow than the above... to TRANSFER the settings to the 6600, you need to select on the 6600 in what direction to 'transfer' the settings. One goes from 6600 to phone, the other goes from phone to 6600. Go in select your sports teams (GO CUBS!), wallpaper(s), whatever, and transfer them to the 6600. It's a wonky interface and I'll probably only ever do this once as I don't really care to update a bunch.

As a side note - I have wired my 6600 harness directly from the 28 pin connector for the parking brake and the VSS - and I still get the stupid warning that the speed sensor is disconnected. Maybe my wiring sucks, but I don't think so. Others in the thread indicate the same issue with direct wiring/hacking of the harness. Seems like a common problem - hopefully a firmware update will do the trick.

So far 4/5 stars - I hate stupid error messages and I'm deducting 1 star until it is fixed. So there. Nah <sticks out tongue>.

The vehicle speed sensor seems to be an issue only when it connects to CP for me. If I turn the bluetooth on my phone off and then start it up, it doesn't display the error. It seems to me that there is something about connecting to the CP that throws the error and it is probably unrelated to any wiring, and IMHO is a bug. It isn't every time, either. Time to bug Pioneer, I guess.

I just finished installing my 6600 last weekend and man is this thing pretty sweet and a huge upgrade from the Entune headunit. Has anyone had issues with the quality of the call audio with this head unit? It makes some voices sound a little scratchy, I have tried calling different people with different phones and I am currently using a iPhone 11 Pro max. I have tried playing with the EQ and it didn't make any difference. Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know what's that GPS connection for? Since Apple Carplay runs by phone signals, If I don't run Sirus XM, there's no reason for the Pioneer to use the GPS, correct?

Kenwood? Use the OEM connection, you'll get better accuracy and stuff.

    No worries. Just messing.

Hook up the OEM GPS antenna. It does help with the navigating and the mapping.

Where were you 4 days ago :(
I could not get the caravassist to work at all, finally put the firmware update on a thumbdrive. Then the same day I was able to get it to work. I didn't know you had to hit the plus sign and "register" the radio when using the app....register is not the word I would have used......

I keep getting “speed sensor disconnected. Please attach it.” I tapped the pink wire into pin 17 of the stock harness. I believe it was a purple or purple/white wire. Also, Bluetooth audio will not work. CarPlay works, but not Bluetooth audio. Any suggestions?

Yup I’m having the same issue and with Siri as well. What’s your setup? Are you using an amp for your speakers? Any crossovers?

I am using all stock speakers and I am not using an after market amp. The weird thing is that the all the music being play through it sounds great though. Its only noticeable during Bluetooth phone calls and watching movies and YouTube on the browser

I only have a problem with phone calls and Siri, music is fine but all my speakers are amplified I was thinking that could have been the problem... must be a setting on the HU or our phones then, or a wiring issue but that seems less likely.

haha it's not relaly scratchy but it's odd audio quality almost like the highs and lows are out of sync or the mids or gone... tough to explain but it's weird.

Did you ever figure this out? Going to run a version of that same camera and have heard u only need to tie in the rca and the wire you questioned. Curous how u ended up wiring it. I have never used the little wire by the rca before. Always power and ground to reverse lights. This will be a front camera for me so i wanted to see how u ended up wiring it. Thanks!

The way I understand it, power runs through the outer shield of the rca and signal on the inside, then you tap local ground to the frame on the camera side.

Personally I think it makes so much more sense to extend the camera 4, 5 or 6 pin connector into the vehicle. Since that’s a smaller connector than the rca plug and you can provide proper power and signal inside the cab without having to use tricks like power on the shield. Easier all around with only $10-$20 added cost.

I also hate how long those cables are. Maybe useful for a trailer camera where you don’t care much.

    Just my 2 cents though.

What I did was just taped off that red wire and left it alone. I connected the rca to the labeled "second camera" rca slot. I been running the front camera for about a month now and I have not encounter any problem so far with taping that red wire off.

Checked mine this morning - audio quality seemed fine to me. I'm running the kicker speakers w/ the kicker/subaru tweeters and no amp. HTH
