That sounds like a leaf shifting and banging the shackle.

    Hey Everyone,
I had a similar popping / clicking noise coming from my front end when turning. It would only happen at slow speed. Started out only on the left side but progressed to both directions, especially when i turned the wheel between left / straight / right. I couldn't figure it out myself at first, and dropped it at my local dealership. They immediately told me it was my Fox Factory aftermarket suspension. I was positive it was not since the noise was happen when the truck as stationary. Toyota had my truck for 24 hrs and called and told me they couldn't figure it out and it would cost me $500+ to tear down my suspension and perform further diagnostics!!!! or i could pick up the truck and take it somewhere else.

I picked up my truck and @RangerComa and I did some diagnostics ourselves. within 10 minutes we were able to track the noise down to my skid plate / differential mount. Turns out that the
@RCI skid plate was making contact with the differential mount. Likely because the rear skid mount bolts were over tightened and compressed the Polypropylene spacers just slightly. We added a couple washers to the spacers and noise is gone. I also noticed that Toyota seems to be dropping skid plates when doing oil changes instead of using the access port in the skid plate. One of my skid bolts were cross threaded and they had about 65NM Of torque on them. Way over the RCI spec. If you have this problem and are running an aftermarket skid plate, check the clearance between the skid and diff mount. If its tight or making contact create some more space between the skid and diff mount.

Hope this helps some other folks out there avoid the BS from the dealers on aftermarket suspension being the culprit for this noise.

    Cheers

I'm not 100% sure, but I think if you have 33s you need to do the ecgs clamshell bushing.

I also have RCI skids and the popping noise was getting really bad. Just added a couple washers at the same bolt that has the rubber bushing and voila, no noise! There was some evidence that the bushing was over tightened.

Can someone share a picture of where the RCI skid is rubbing and needs a washer? I got the clunky sounds and have RCI skids too. Thank you in advance

Hey! So one of the longest running issues I found on my rig was a popping/click noise whenever the vehicle would shift in tight turns. After tons of searching, I eventually got fed up enough to loosen ALL the hardware holding the skid. Just loosened them a tad since the skid set was one of the only things I had the dealer install and they used an impact wrench. After loosening the hardware I was AMAZED to have the slow speed turning noises disappear! Hope this is of some help to you! Good luck :)

Just curious (I realize this is an old post but same issue and sound location)...were you ever able to locate the issue of the popping. I have had new whitelines installed in my LCAs as I though that would fix it...it did for a moment and it is back. Though not as regular. It is a loud pop (not brakes rattling or clunk or squeak) happens after a turn or even sometimes in when I put the brakes on. I have torqued to 130 ft lbs...still there.

So I was having the same issue I was pretty sure it was my steering rack, but ended up being the skid plate binding with some frame and diff mount parts. Mind you this started happening after my TRD Pro skid plate got banged up and became crooked… so here are some pictures for anyone having same issues.

I basically added three washers on each side where the middle is (closest to the diff mounts)

And two on each side on the most front ones.

@SpeySquatch Appreciate the follow up! I am running 2.5's but don't have the noise. Might be time to check regardless...

    Interesting discovery OP.

Funny enough, my springs have the same impact mark that yours do.

Wondering if this is the same issue I am having. Do you remember what size washers you used for this? Thanks for the info.

Thank you for this tread! I had the same issue dealer removed the skid to change oil… and impacted it back on.. I gotta get on them next time to use the access hatch! Worst part for me I ended up poking holes to grease all joints.. wish I saw this thread earlier.
