I recently bought some stick-on j-channel and stuck it to the back of the desk. It helped, but I just have so many different devices around here that are just getting unplugged and moved around all the time that it only goes so far.

I forced myself to do it with this desk though. I kept saying in my head "if there are cables everywhere then I cant see my new desk" lol

I looked and tested J-track for my desk and it just wasnt going to work. Having cables that might need to be redressed or other things getting unplugged was going to get annoying. And I just didnt like the look of it for my setup, especially long runs of adhesive tape to hold them up.

I went with Cable sheathing and reusable plastic mounts. I can easily place new cable into the sheathing or take it out. And the plastic clips I used can be opened and closed as needed which is nice when trying to adjust tension. They are have a small adhesive contact instead of a 6"x 1" strip of tape.

For items that would be getting unplugged more often like headphones and external HDD, I made a disconnect point for it. I was also able to organize my cable runs (data/video/power) easier using the sheathing and plastic clips and run them down the desk leg.

Yeah that sheathing...hmm. I do have some runs that could benefit from it.

My issue is i just need access to this stuff, network cables and IO cables getting moved around pretty regularly. But the stuff that stays static like monitor cables and USB would be doable.

    sheathing-
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FXF12HC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Buy it with a larger diameter than you will actually be using. That way you can add new cables if needed and it also makes it easy to pull cables out when it isnt such a tight fit with the other cables. Since the sheathing is open on one side the entire way, you can have the cables come out where ever you want instead of "where the openings are" as with other things.

For your things that are disconnected often, make a prebuilt cable "snake" with that devices power/data cable already sheathed part of the way and then connect them when you need to. That snake could live near your computer desk or even hanging from a hook on the side of it. It will also help you keep track of all the cable bundles we all get with so many devices.

Yeah, I'm glad its open on one side. DVI cables are big

The snake is a good idea, we'll see if I can make that work. A lot of this is point to point and temporary, so I'll have to think about what that looks like.

For reference 3x HDMI 18 gauge and 1x headphone cable fit comfortably inside the 1/2" sheathing to the pc, but another 1 would make it a little tight.

Ordered a UPS today and once it comes in it will be modified to allow connection of deep cycle batteries for extended runtime.

Careful. A lot of those units aren't built for longer charge times than they were designed for. Some are fine, some are not.

My plan is to put a battery maintainer on the batteries themselves to reduce the load on the built in charger, I don’t think it would cause issues, if it would I’ll disconnect them to maintenance charge them as needed.

    Cyberpower 900 Watt (1500Va) unit.

I really need to replace mine. I still have an old APC ES750. The battery is dead, so I've been using it as a surge protector and for it's master plug (turning on one device will turn on others), but lately it's been shutting down at random.

I tell myself that being in an apartment, it's all temporary.
Once we get into a house, it'll all get neatened up.
I currently have this desk from IKEA that has the net underneath full of wires... :anonymous:

Once I can actually run cables through the walls and have a decent home network setup, it'll be swell...

Lol. Yeah I'm renting right now too. Cat 5 run around the baseboards, coax hidden under a rug ....it's about as good as it's gonna get.

When I owned a house, the time when I figured out
what to do with the wiring is about the time I decided to quit my job and sell it.

Im also renting the Condo that Im in, so there is only so much I can do. Just like you I have a long cat 5 running along with HDMI to the TV and router. Luckily there is a power outlet in the corner where the PC is. My power runs for the other power conditioners (network and media) along with speaker wires are hidden under a runner rug crossing near the door way. It looks like I95 under there with all the wires lol.

I used 3M command strips everywhere in this place, all the paintings, pictures, most of the stuff in the kitchen, even some cable trays behind the media center. Everything can be easily adjusted or removed, and I love it. As long as your choas is organized chaos that can be very well hidden. It is ok.

Ive got the same Cyberpower 900W. Ive had it for about 8 years and it works great. I replaced the battery last year after the unit sat unplugged for about 2 years.
