I'd do it. You'll waste a lot of time searching for another just to shave off a hundred bucks at the most.

 

The price seems to be on point. Most of the ones I found have been over a hundred thousand and around the same price. Next closest I found has been one with 94,000 selling for 1150

 

Rather reassuring that it's difficult to find Tacoma's in scrap yards

I think most people have gmrs radios/walkie talkies. Sometimes in addition to a CB. The permanent mounted gmrs are suppose to work really good but are illegal in Canada because they have too many watts. Not sure how anyone would be able to detect that though. Midland makes a couple nice permanent gmrs radios.

 

On Car-part.com? I believe that's for the whole axle assembly? Is the yard going to take out the 3rd member and ship it?

 

Whole axle. I'll just do a direct swap. I have someone in London that can pick up and deliver.
I just searched on maps and worked my way through the nearest places

 

that entire community is a self policing one if i recall correctly.

there are ass hats that are so by the book if they hear you're call. they'll try and trace you and find where you are :/

A whole axle??! Damn. Take it and run. A third rebuild will be close to that alone. Plus you have spare shafts, on bearings and what not.

So you have your radio tuned like @Windigo to just the GMRS radio frequencies, get way further distance because the 'ham' style radios are just more watts. No one tracking that down, its a common used freq.

Its a real wierd space (go figure, CRTC regulated). I, as a pilot, have my radio operator license as commanded by the gov (I had to be tested)...however that does not extend my radio operations beyond an airplane. Why, if the gov deems me competent in an aviation context for radio transmission does it not extend to surface or marine operations? (It doesnt)

Ya, just finished CB install and wanted to add GMRS unit. After looking around figured something was up when I couldnt find anything in Canada and most would not ship to Canada. From what ive found seems legal limit is 2 watts.
Your right though, the Midland mobile GMRS units have stellar reviews

Thought about this route, but I dont need a new hobby and this would definitely take some know how which I do not have. Ended up finding a company to ship a MXT400 and a good handheld, so far so good. Will see if it makes it. Not sure if they would catch something like that at the border or if they care

The MXT400 looks awesome. I doubt any government agency has the time or resources to track you down because your radio has too many watts.

 

The Baofeng is quite feature-packed if you figure out how to use it. You can listen to two GMRS channels simultaneously, then toggle to transmit on either one. It also has a 5W mode.

Im old, as we all know, i remember when CB license was required to transmit (fun fact: legally its still required)...it was actually enforced back then. This was when the movie Convoy released, i digress...now days cop would fine for hand held comms. I travel 401 corridor from toronto to windsor area round trip every week...for shits and giggles I'll fire the cb up to listen in...talk about egregious violation of crtc regulations!

No one is getting reeled in for anything other than non hands free compliance if even that. Ham might be diferent still, but i highly doubt it
