unlocking an ECU in vF uses 4 credits. 1 credit is for the vF tune software itself.

Hah! I wish. Our girls just informed us about their life choices, or let us find out on our own. Wasn’t until each was about 30 before they started consulting us. But hey, they didn’t make any really bad ones and learned from the few bad ones they did make.

How many files come in the Tune Pack? And what's the best tune for a mostly stock Tacoma Sport. I just have the K&N Intake.

All the ones that are available for the ecu. Somewhere between like 10 and 40 depending on if you are AT or MT

    I’d start on 2.0 regular

Alright so I'm gonna finally cave and get this going. Will also pre-order that wifi dongle. The explanations for the VFTuner give me the vibe that there's already tunes that come with it (in the sense you use 4 of the 5 included credits to unlock an ECU), which would imply the 3.5L pack is unnecessary unless you also want to edit tunes.

Because my brain has only two bytes to spare and they're both competing against each other, the VFTuner us like a grill. Buy once, cook whatever you want. If it comes with uneditable tunes, it's like getting some prepackaged steaks to toss on the grill. If you want to flavor your steaks or use different cuts, you'd have to go buy some (the tune pack). Right now, OVTune is stocking some choice cuts for the AT but we're still waiting for some juicy USDA cuts (2.0 final final final excelsior).

So feasibly, if one is content with the prepackaged steaks for the time being, they can cook dinner now after buying the grill. When the USDA cuts roll out, it'll be time to shell out for those. Did I get this right? I think I'm hungry. I want steak.

    yes.

I'm gonna say that Mat cooks up a mighty nice one and i couldn't do better. nobody here will tune it better. but the bells & whistles in vF can add customization on top if you load a non-editable tune.

    happy Friday.

since 2.0 is octane learning does that mean that flashing to premium will have no effect? for example right now im running the reg superfob cause when i did all this i was running 87. right now im running efree (89.) when that runs out i was gonna go premium. in turn, giving me the opportunity to run prem superfob. would this be redundant because of octane learning?

on a user level, i can say that giving the taco a virus was exactly what i was looking for. that vvti changeover is gone. it does feel more torquier throughout the whole powerband. i did leave my sprintbooster on though.

They will both adapt to the octane. The premium can just go higher than the regular can.

How long does it take a tune to adapt? If its a matter of minutes then I suppose it doesn't make much difference either way (except you say the Premium can go higher. )

There really isn’t a specific time for OL to complete. It’s constantly monitoring and making small adjustments to ignition and timing. If you do a handful of full throttle pulls from idle to red line, that’ll speed it up.

it also depends on what you went from, 89 to 91 is going to be faster than 87 to 93.

So, from what I'm looking at, 2.0 is not final yet. Anyone having stuttering problems with it? I feel that the shifting still needs work, and my MPG dropped by about 2. I'm gonna install 1.05 performance before my trip tp MA... it's a 958 mile trip.
Oh, apparently I did get all the 2.0 base files without having to pay for the tune pack. I did buy the tune pack on Tuesday, but I had to request the additional files last night. Seems we had a slight miscommunication, and I guess I misunderstood what I was supposed to get.

Ok, So i'm reading that the 2.0 files are Octane learning... so what's the difference between the premium and regular files?

@Infernal_Taco: no worries man. i just got all this and am learning too. feels like im nagging with how much questions im asking lol. anyhow, from what i took away from it, the difference between regular and premium is the ignition points. regular starts lower to allow cleaner burning for 87 and premium starts at 92-93. seems like octane learning will adjust itself accordingly to your fuel choice up to a certain point? with premium having a high tolerance? thats from my understanding. right now im running the regular superfob map with 89 ocatane. i started at 87. when i fill up again ill go to 92 and switch over to the premium superfob map. what maps were included when you bough the taco tune pack?
