That plane is just demanding a jeweled prop spinner

All kidding aside, the claims are pretty remarkable if they pan out. Though based on the dash visible in the glass, the landing visibility must be a PITA

I worked with the Blues for 4 years on the advance team. Not on the flight team- no, but definitely part of the club. Best years of my life.

That's fascinating. The article says it has a V12 engine running on JetA? That's a pretty unique idea. Didn't think I'd see a new aircraft built with a V12 Diesel.

The front side window looks like it provides some decent visibility for landing. No worse than a tailwheel I expect. I didn't think that was the case until I saw the flightaware photo. Window is lower than I expected.

The horsepower to weight ratio of the Diamond engines has never impressed me. Their Austro E400 is 410lbs dry and only makes 168hp. The venerable O-360 is 290lbs and makes 180hp. The E400 is making a lot more hp per cu.in. but it's still too heavy.

I like the advancements of the diesel engines in aviation but I hope they continue to squeeze more power out of them. The TBO of the E400 is also 1800hr. The O-360 is 2000 and we see that out of our engines quite easily.

There are a lot more interesting numbers to compare between the engines but those are the ones that glare at me.

What years did you hang out with them? Last time the Angels were in MT was 07.
Boss got annoyed because every time we heard the jets we'd open the windows watch them practice. Got no work done that week!

ah yeah, the locals always loved the practice shows...its like getting to see a few free airshows ya know! I was with the team starting in early 2011. Never made it to Montana sadly! Would have been some beautiful flying I bet!

I did pay to attend the show one day....the others I just climbed up on the garage roof and watched from there. Didn't have the commentary to go with it but had a clearer view of the planes than I did while on the ground.
