What are you riding? Rear shocks are measured in eye to eye length and stroke length. Those numbers are based on your bike make and model. You should be able to find them by searching 'your bike' shock specs.

Knowing what bike you're on will also play in to what kind of shocks make sense for you.

Congrsts! Don’t wait until the snow flies, PHat Bikes are used year round on the trails. Makes the trail that much smoother. :)

Same here. We were both ski/snowboard instructors at Brighton. She taught for 10, I taught for 5. She always had the skill, just never the desire to tackle the "scary" stuff. After a couple of years riding together, slowly building familiarity with side-country stuff, she started going toward those areas on her own more. Same principle for MTB. Except, falls on bikes tend to hurt a lot more, and getting the courage to get back to where you were after one takes more time.

Didn't think of that! Probably because I'v never ridden there. Heard its super fun though.

I'd just get new RSC MC/levers. The biggest thing your'e missing out on is the Swinglink (the S in RSC), which ups the power and feel. The calipers are the same.

If you're refusing, I assume there's a good reason? I've never had a bike that wasn't better with a coil, especially a good coil like Cane Creek or Fox.

Yesterday was a miracle. No smoke, no heat (60*), and a little rain to make the trail tacky. Missed that so much. Took out the Django for some epic "down-country" riding. Going back out in a few minutes :)

I loved the Bronson, but haven't tried one since they moved their shock down. I've had a couple as rentals. Thanks for the suggestion

Perhaps my silliest reason is that they remind me of the cheap shocks on Walmart bikes and I've had a couple of those before upgrading. But more seriously they're more difficult to set up, especially if you want to loan your bike to someone else. Plus you don't get the same progression as you do with an air shock. I do like how it isn't affected by elevation/temperature as much though.

That's actually coming from several reviews and a relative who has put one on his bike. But I respect your opinion! If it works for you, then it works for you!

Both air and coil have great performance. I’ve had both, coil penalty being heavier of course. Can be offset with a titanium spring.

Smoking deal. That's what I'm running (29), with a Push ACS3. It's ridiculously good. At that price you can add the ACS3 and still be under retail.

Damn. If that was 29 I’d grab it and drop it to 140mm.

Such a beautiful day. Smoke moved out, rain and cold air moved in.
Might have to go again tomorrow.

The Django is a blast to ride right now.

Indian Peaks Wilderness. I was just hiking there last weekend. Got to the top of Arapaho Peak. Top left corner, on top of the glacier.

Still a little smokey but at least there are blue skies and plenty of shade on the trail.

EBB607BF-0689-47A6-826E-CF8F35CADD89.jpg Picked up some entry level bikes for me and the lady.

    specialized fuse 27.5+ for me
Specialized rockhopper 1x 27.5 for her.

Swapped out the heavy crappy Suntour coil fork for a slightly better Suntour epixon airsprung fork. Must have dropped 2 lbs off the bike instantly. Added a dropper post as well for her.

Haven’t ridden dirt since 2014, just road. Excited to get back on some dirt and plan some bikepacking trips.
