Which latch are you referring to? I just replaced the handle and don't want it breaking again if I can help it.

The part that actually holds the door shut. It’s inside the door and you can see part of it when you open the door. It grabs the U-shaped bracket on the body side of the door jam. I’d take a photo but my truck is 100 miles away right now. Just open your door and look at the side of the door you can’t miss it.

Can you lubricate it well enough without removing the door panel?

It’s tough. I tried that first and it didn’t help much, but mine was real dirty. Cleaning it helped more than the lube. There was 20 years of dirt roads built up in there.

Good to know. Gotta remove the panel to do the new handle anyway. I actually took it off a week or so ago to fix a window issue and actually surprised how easy it was. Mostly that the little pop-it things are a little beefier that those on an old 97 Subaru I had, so I was stoked to not break any. Haha

Hell yeah...i had one break out of 8 and they are 17 years old...i remember when I had a F-150, all broke and it was only a 3 year old truck. That thing was the biggest POS I ever owned.

Well I installed my ebay handle the other day and took the advice of cleaning/greasing the latch that actually contacts the door and holy crap it's smoother than when the truck is new haha.

The somewhat ironic part of it is the night after I installed the handle I had a dream that it broke again
