You could argue with code enforcement that it was an emergency repair. In most jurisdictions you don't need a permit for that. On the other hand it's pretty obvious it failed and couldn't hold the snow load. Starting with a new design would be the better way to approach it. That you for sure need a permit for.

If I was planning on remodeling a home the last thing I would want to do is piss off the inspector by getting red flagged. To each their own though.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
WHat deck!!?? There is nothing left to call a deck? A set of questionable stairs and a little railing sitting on the rim joist. What the hell -- tear that down. Maybe save some of the lumber if it is treated yellow pine.
Its probably good the deck looked the way it did. That deck alone would scare off many/most potential buyers these days --maybe that helped you get your bargain buy.
    Good luck with your project!

I didn't have any time to update until now, was able to finish assembly.
I situated the open side stringer and cut the existing baseboard to match.

I placed a level across the front of the framing and glued/screwed 1"x1" blocks onto the back of the risers, to tie the riser to the tread above (adds more rigidity).

I Liquid Nail and then placed the tread/riser assembly, I pulled one to verify good contact

As she sits now, waiting for me to get back into town. The next thing I'll do is stain/poly the treads and then paint. After that, I'll install the already painted balusters and newel and then the rail. I think I'm going to match the treads to the floor and go with a darker stain for the rail.

So, I now get to move the shed I just bought after finding out I can extend my fence. And by move I mean rotate about 110 degrees in the same spot it currently sits in. I built it on a deck block foundation, similar to below except the 4x4's sit in the deck blocks and I used actual subfloor. Deck blocks are in 4 rows of 3. A local shed company quoted $150 to move it with a special machine, but I don't trust that they can move it and put it back down the same way it currently sits. Anyone every done something like this?

Maybe I'm missing something, because $150 sounds cheap.

Could you set the footings in the new location, have them pick it up, rotate, and set it down?

What's the surface the blocks sit on? Grass, concrete etc?

Putting down my “Luxury” vinyl plank. Almost done and then can do baseboards and bring all of the furniture back in.

there’s a spot I wish I had leveled a bit better but it should be ok in the long term.

I finally got around to installing the mailbox post I made, only took me a year from when our old shitty one got blasted by a car in the middle of the night.

    IMG_20200829_183506.jpg

The old one is a hollow 4" steel pipe, it rusted out at ground level and then got run into, there's been a 2x4 in there holding the top half upright. Gonna take that out and fill the old pipe tomorrow.

Yes I know $150 is cheap as hell. That’s part of why I am skeptical. Some of the new footings would be in the same location is sitting currently.

blocks are currently 1/2 buried sitting on gravel.

All the ones I have seen like these require skid underneath.

I’ve been slowly working up the willpower to start my driveway work. I did a second floor addition to my house two years ago and just Now got around to fishing up the driveway. The old concrete that was there was just completely destroyed by the trash dumpsters and delivery trucks.

While I was at I replaced my sewer main that had a nice little uphill slope in the middle of the driveway. Replaced the old clay with cast iron. Finished leveling out the dirt in preparation for paver work later this week.

Not too bad for 3 days of work for me and my 55 year old mother as a helper.
we took out around 10 years of concrete and 10 years of dirt.
