Arizona member moving to Texas for work. Never been there so idk what to expect. Seems like you have to drive pretty far out of Dallas for any good offroading. What spots should I be looking for?

Also, is rust an issue in Dallas? Rust has never been an issue for me since I've been in AZ.

Look forward to meeting you guys.

You are correct. The Metroplex is mostly “urban”. The two main off road parks are in Bridgeport and Gilmer(Barnwell Mountain), which are a bit of a drive.

It’s definitely more humid here than where you’re at, but no... Rust isn’t an issue here. We don’t get enough snow and ice for salt to be a regular issue during the winter.

Also, don’t move to Dallas. Trust me.

No such thing as public lands around here. :(

So either you satisfy yourself with easy 2wd dirt roads or you pay admission to an "off road" playground. Or you can take a long weekend and go to Colorado to get your fix.

Also, welcome, and you have my condolences.

Grand Prairie and surrounding areas are fine. I’m from Ft. Worth, so there’s a little “we don’t like them, they don’t like us” deal going on. In general, Dallas proper isn’t the most desirable place to move your family. Ft. Worth, Arlington, Mansfield are all great areas to live.

Its a weird culture shock that can't quite be explained. Honestly I really do like it here, and GP is a good area to be in. Close to dallas, closer to the mid cities. You'll hate the traffic and the heat, but everything else is cool.

Yeah, it's hot here in the summer. No secret there. So, for 10 weeks or so in the summer you keep yourself in A/C after 11 am if it really bothers you. I've lived here for 30+ years and I don't find it a big deal. I was born and raised in the Chicago where it gets colder than a mother-in-law's kiss. Give me 95 degrees vs -10 any day. Plenty of people disagree with me on that, and their bitching dominates social media when we get into a little hot spell. But guess what, no matter how much they bitch, the weather doesn't change.

Fair enough. Closer to the border makes for better Mexican.

But I do love Tex mex as a separate category.
